Hyderabad|India|Sept'2012:
The
IT Industry which had already instituted many measures to save power in
the past have now come out with a list of best practices using Green
Technology and innovative measure to effect significant savings in power
utilization.
The President of the IT and ITES Industry Association of
Andhra Pradesh (ITsAP) Mr. V Rajanna, emphasized that the industry
believes that these measures will go a long way in conserving the scare
resource of electric power for the overall benefit of the society at a
large in the state. The Industry is creating more awareness among its
employees so that some of the best practices can be followed and
implemented in the homes as well, added Rajanna.
Some of the
best practices highlighted are listed below:
1.Systems
and Monitors:
2.Lighting:
-Monitoring
and controlling the lights through BMS to save the energy.
3.Air
Conditioning:-Optimization
of A/Cs usage - Load controlling through AHUs.
4.General:
-
Consolidated IT Infrastructure using virtualization
techniques.
-
Introduction of THIN COMPUTING where user Desktops were
replaced with Thin Clients, as the complete Infrastructure.
-
Control of CO2 Emission.
-
Replace CRT's with TFT monitors (70% reduction in power).
-
Optimizing the usage of backup
UPS power.
- 100%
utilization Solar Power.
- Use
of motion sensors for the lighting system wherever possible to save
energy / Auto off System while break timing with power save model.
- Installation
of Aircon Energy savers.
-Voltage
Optimization.
-Day
Light Savings.
-Reduced
ceiling lights lit in each floor to 50% by turning off alternate lights.
-Pull
chord switches provided (in the absence of motion sensor).
-Reduce
the workstation lighting to 300 Lux level compared to the 500-600 Lux
level as per the initial Lighting designs.
-Installation
of Lighting Energy Saver (ES 25).
- VRV
Air Conditioning Systems for small clusters and individual control of AC
cassettes.
-Auto-off
of AC's while break timing with power save model.
-Use
of Air Cooler instead of AC during rainy season and winters.
-Temp
increased by 1-2 deg as per ambient temp on daily basis.
-For
24X7 projects, keep chillers on up to 930 Pm and after which only AHU
are kept ON.
-Installation
of VFD’s for Chiller secondary pumps & all AHU’s.
-Chiller
operation optimization according to the employee occupancy and ambient
temperatures and to run on part load.
-Cassette
ACs for conference rooms etc so AC can be switched on only when the
rooms are in use.
-Installation
of Solar Hybrid AC in security gate-3 (on a trial basis).
- Installation
of Harmonic filters in power distribution system resulting in a 6-8%
power saving.
-Data
driven approach: Understanding of Baseline metrics and available
benchmark. Monthly reporting and comparison of improvement across
facilities.
- Weekly
best practice conference calls.
-“I
– Manager”- Introduction of software controlled management of Air
conditioning in 420 in- house training accommodation facilities by one
of the software company.
-Energy Audit and
Awareness campaigns.
