Hyderabad, February, 2005: BRAND
NOKIA won the CII Brand of the Year 2005 Award. The Glittering
trophy designed exclusively for the event by OYZTERBAY was handed
over to Mr. Sanjeev Sharma, Managing Director, Nokia by Mr. Suresh
Krishna, Chairman and Managing Director, Sundaram Fasteners to the
accompaniment of thunderous applause.
Nokia was chosen from 10 finalists comprising Eveready, Titan,
Dabur, Indane, Fair and Lovely, Lux, Ponds, Rin and Ponds Body
Lotion after a selection process where they were tested in the
market and rated by consumers. Representatives of the shortlisted
brands had to make presentations in front of a five-member jury
that made the final selection.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Suresh Krishna, Chairman & Managing
Director, Sundram Fasteners said, "Indian companies could be said
to have achieved brand excellence, when consumers abroad are
prepared to wait in queue for an Indian brand. That would be the
epitome of brand recall for Indian products. It was important to
establish brand recall outside the country also. These products
would not only get money from the wallets of the customers, but
also their hearts. Though India might lead in the manufacture of
industrial products, the image of India is only in what people can
touch, feel and use."
He announced Nokia as the winner of the Brand Finale Award, chosen
for its brand recall in the market place, distribution channels
and finding favour on various parameters among consumers. Chairman
of CII Brand Summit 2005 and the Joint Managing Director, The
Hindu, Mr. N. Murali said, "The award has been instituted this
year, to give a fresh angle to the Brand Summit. I hope that the
award would become a prestigious and much-coveted prize in the
branding segment."
Collecting the award, Mr. Sanjeev Sharma, Managing Director,
Nokia, said "It is gratifying that a company that has been in
India only for the last 10 years has won such a coveted award.
Beginning as a corporate productivity tool, the product has now
won acceptance among common people and is being used everyday.
This award will spur us on to greater achievements"
