Infertility attracts lot of doctors from A.P |
Hyderabad, Nov 04: The world congress on
Practical Infertility management which was kicked off in Mumbai yesterday
attracted lot of doctors from the state of Andhra Pradesh. All together
more than 25 doctors have taken part in the Congress from Andhra Pradesh
state alone. Particularly large number of doctors from interior parts of
Andhra have shown keen interest in participation.
It is being jointly organized by the Lilavati hospital infertility
centre,Mumbai obstetrics & gynecological society & various committees of
the Federation of OBGYN societies of India. It will conclude on November
23rd.
Giving details of the meet, Dr Hrishikesh Pai Gynecologist & infertility
specialist at the Lilavati hospital Mumbai & the organizing chairperson of
the conference said, "infertility is a big social issue which affects 10 %
of married couples. The conference is mainly aimed at training doctors in
both the practical as well as advanced treatment modalities .
More than 600 Gynecologists from all over India are attending the
conference . Besides this, there are more than a dozen leading experts
from all over the world who will share their experiences with us, says Dr
Nandita Palshetkar Gynecologist at the Lilavati hospital & organizing
secretary of the conference.
According to Dr Hrishikesh Pai Gynecplogist & infertility specialist at
the Lilavati hospital, male factor infertility afflicts nearly 40 to 50 %
of infertile couples. The stress of modern day living , environmental
pollution by estrogen like chemicals have lead to a decrease in male sperm
counts. In fact there was a recent report from Europe saying that mobile
phone usage can influence sperm counts.
The conference would explore the ways of improving semen counts & throw
light on methods such as Intracytoplasmic sperm injection(ICSI) &
Intrauterine insemination (IUI) which are being increasingly used in
treating male infertility ,, says Dr Nandta Palshetkar Gynecologist at the
Lilavati Hospital & chairman of the Perinatology committee ,FOGSI. The
Lilavati Hospital IVF centre will share its vast experience on ICSI ,which
they started in 1996 with others participants & delegates.
The conference is being attended by some of the great pioneers in the
field. Dr Herman Tournaye comes from the unit in Brussels Belgium, who
were the first in the world to do ICSI in 1992. Dr John Mcbain comes from
one of the biggest IVF units in Australia.Recently this unit had the
worlds first baby after doing genetic tests by the new method of
Comparative genomic hybridization. Dr Christopher Keck from Germany will
share his experiences with newer drugs used in IVF , while Stefano
Bettochi from Italy will throw light on the new technique of office
hysteroscopy.
