Those calling JTM subscribers will now be hearing a different tune as a result of its takeover by Bharati Enterprises which  has chalked out plans to make AirTel cellular services the leading player in Andhra Pradesh by March 2001. It plans to invest around 200 cores to establish infrastructure backbone. It includes laying of 3,000-km long optic fiber and adding 93 more cell sites to the existing 57. What's more it aims at almost 1 lakh customers just in AP. Why not in the age of shavers they had pagers then why not cellular now. 

In Andhra Pradesh, AirTel services are operational in Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Vishakapatnam, Guntur, Tirupati, Amalapuram and Nellore. The services expected to be extended to Kakinada, Rajahmundry and Bhimavaram by July'00.The company has over 46,000 subscribers in the State.

Overall AirTel has over 4 lakh subscribers in the country and AirTel has been voted India's best Cellular Service 3 years in a row.

    On its launch in Hyderabad it has all the city's leading celebrities. Ali Khan, Malaika were the host at Taj Residency. Shyam Benegal, Nageshwar Rao, V. Laxman, Talat Aziz, Amala, Divya Mirza had a word or two about why Hyderabad is special to them.
