Mr.Ghaisuddin Babukhan
Chairman,Babukhan Properties & Industries Pvt Ltd

After graduating from Nizam College in 1963, Ghiasuddin Babukhan, much like the younger men of his time found himself at the crossroads contemplating his future. The country was forging ahead on a socialistic path. The emerging Nehruvian socialistic India did not allow Ghiasuddin Babukhan to retain the industrial empire that his late father Khan Bahadur Abdul Karim Babukhan had created. The government had taken over the management of their Industries, (Nizam sugar's and ACC for instance) In this scinario, Ghiasuddin Babukhan trod a different path and turned to poultry - a hitherto unexplored emerging industry and was met with instant success. This spurred him on to go into other untested waters.

The ever-increasing population of Hyderabad was creating a housing shortage in the twin cities, besides huge lands and bungalows belonging to the old jagirdars, rajas of the Nizam State, lay in a state of disuse and disrepair. With a view to provide affordable housing, Ghaisuddin Babukhan setup along with his brother Basheeruddin Babukhan, the real estate company, Mogul Builders and Planners in the year 1973. A number of residential/commercial buildings, layouts, town houses, farm house schemes followed making them the "Pioneers of multi-storied buildings in Hyderabad".

Currently Ghaisuddin Babukhan is on the board of a number of companies including Kasila Farms.

 The Babukhan's

The Babukhan era began in the 1930's, when Khan Bahadur Abdul Karim Babukhan, the doyen of the clan, formed the Hyderabad Construction Company Ltd., and created architectural marvels for the Nizams' State.

The Arts College of the Osmania University, was constructed by the Babukhans. Other "Jewels of the Nizam" built by the group are Hyderabad House, the Delhi Palace of the Nizam of Hyderabad, Soan Bridge, across the river Godavary, Kadam Dam, substantial work of the Thunga Badra Dam and the first phase of the Ramagundam Thermal Power Station.

Industrial ventures promoted and managed by the group during this period included The Sir Silk Ltd., The Sirpur Paper Mills Ltd., Hyderabad Vanaspati Ltd., The Nizam Sugars Ltd., and others. Since then the group has grown, standing the test of time, much like their monuments.

The second-generation of the Babukhans were the pioneers of multi-storied buildings in Hyderabad in the seventies. In the years that followed, a number of commercial and residential complexes, town houses and land developments were executed. Deccan Towers, Al-Karim Trade Centre, Hill Top Apartments and the tallest building in Hyderabad, the Babukhan Estate are some of their landmarks - making Babukhans, "builders par execellence". The capability to deliver the best, and on time, plus a vision in developing multifaceted ventures is a testimony of the commitment to excellence of the Group.

But philanthropy and service to humanity is Ghiasuddin Babukhan's forte. He co-founded the Hyderabad chapter of the United Economic Forum in the year 1984 and Hyderabad Zakath and Charitable Trust in the year 1993, a socio-charitable organisation, doing yeoman service to the less privileged members of the society.

He is also the Honorary Secretary of the Sultan-ul-uoom education society for the past two years. The society runs nine colleges and two schools and is the premier minority educational society of Andhra Pradesh.

The dowry system extravagance in marriages, education, charity, health care are burning issues close to the heart of Ghiasuddin Babukhan and he can speak for hours together on these subjects with passion and insight because of his "personal involvement".

Ghiasuddin Babukhan has passed the mantle to his sons Mohsin and Mansoor, the third generation of the Babukhans who work alongside him and manage his construction portfolio. Whereas his younger son Mustafa is still at college.
