Hyderabad :Mr.Venkat Jasti, the chairman and
managing director of Hyderabad
based Suven Pharmaceuticals Limited is a
well-known figure in the Indian
pharmaceutical industry. Extremely
knowledgeable & articulate, Mr.
Jasti is also actively involved
with various organisations which
work on issues affecting the
pharmaceutical industry. |

Mr. Jasti is the president
of the Bulk Drug Manufacturers
Association and is also the
advisor to Andhra Pradesh chief
minister, Mr. Chandrababu Naidu on
pharma-related issues. |
His
company, Suven Pharma, is today a
leading pharmaceutical company and has
specialised in R&D for global life
science companies.
He is a pharmacist by training who
emigrated to the United States in 1974
and returned to Hyderabad in 1988 after
selling off the chain of six pharmacy
stores in New Jersey. Jasti and his
wife, both US citizens, set up Suven in
1989 and ever since the company has
grown into a 40 crore outfit employing
over 400 people.
Suven Pharma is India's only company
involved in research and development
(R&D) activities for global life science
companies. It is a supplier of
intermediates for new chemical entities
(drugs under development) as a thrust
area and are also into contract research
and manufacturing services (CRAMS).
Suven has become a favourite R&D house
for the world's leading Pharma companies
like Abbott (US), Borregarrd
(US/Norway), Du Pont (US), Hoechst
(Germany), Kodak (US), Degussa
(Germany), Fermion (Finland), Sochinaz
(Switzerland), Imation/3M (US) and many
others.
Suven's innovative research for
intermediates of new chemical entities
(new drugs) has focussed on theurepatic
category like anti-cholesterol,
anti-depressant, anti-AIDS,
anti-hypertension, anti-convulsant and
medical imaging.
Suven has so far developed more than 130
intermediates for new chemical entities
worldwide, three of which have reached
the commercial production stage. A
further eight products are in Phase II
or advanced stages of clinical trials.
