Hyderabad, August' 2004: AirTel, India’s leading mobile service provider today announced a bouquet of new value added service offerings which includes special Independence day Airtel Ringtones, logos, wallpapers, picture messages and animated SMS’s for its pre-paid & post-paid customers. These special services would be made available to all AirTel customers from the midnight of August 14, 2004, the eve of India’s 57th Independence Day. The company also announced that a significant portion of the revenue generated from this special service would be donated to The Prime Minister's Relief Fund.

Srinivas, COO, Bharti Cellular Limited, Andhra Pradesh, “The launch of the Independence Day special, value added services and the donation to the prime ministers relief is just a small gesture from Airtel to show our appreciation to India and its people. In the spirit of the occasion, Airtel customers across India would be able to download specially created ringtones, patriotic logos and wallpapers. In addition to these, they can also avail of unique “Azaadi Diwas” picture messages and animated SMS to share with their loved ones. Priced at Rs 10 per ring tone download and Rs 3 per picture, wallpaper, animated SMS and logo download; the service is being made available with content sourced from Yahoo.
