Hyderabad, June, 2004: Nicholas Piramal India Ltd’s (NPIL) Digwal Plant in Medak district which is amongst one of India’s very few USFDA approved API plants bags A P Pollution Control Board’s "Cleaner Production Award for the Best Practices for the year 2003-2004". The Award was presented by Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy here at FAPCCI in a special function organised for the purpose. The Award which was scheduled to have been presented on 5th June the World Environment Day, but the same was postponed and finally presented on the evening of June 12, 2004.

Mr S R Mittal, Head of Safety, Health & Environment and Mr Manoj Agarwalla, General Manager -Finance of the company received the award through the hands of Chief Minister.

Among the various initiatives the plant has taken which has resulted in this coveted award include Conservation of resources including energy and water, monitoring the safety and health of employees and rain water harvesting and green belt development. Over the years it has always focused on complete containment of effluent, its treatment and disposal thereby ensuring no chance of spillage of material to ground. It always took adequate steps to curtail emissions adhering to the norms of the Pollution Control Board. Another note worthy initiative taken up by the plant is reduction of waste by process development.

The manufacturing facility is also accredited and approved by MCA of the UK, TGA of Australia and the European and Canadian drug authorities.

NPIL Digwal plant near Zaheerabad is a 100% EOU and the Customs Manufacturing Division of the company. The company is headed by Chairman Mr Ajay Piramal and this division by Mr J C Saigal, Executive Directive - International. The company achieved sales of Rs 1450 crs in the previous year.
