Hyderabad,Aug'08: The Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy immediately after his return from the tour of Visakhapatnam today reviewed the latest situation arising out of the heavy rains and the relief measures taken up with the Collectors of the concerned districts.He has cancelled the programmes at Vizianagaran due to the very heavy rains. The Chief Minister after his return late in the evening held a teleconference with the Collectors of Vizianagaram, Krishna, Adilabad, Warangal and Khammam districts. The Chief Minister enquired from the Collectors the extent of damage due to heavy rains that has lashed these districts in the last couple of days. He asked them to closely monitor the situation round the clock and be alert to provide relief measures wherever needed. He asked the Collectors to rehabilitate people from the low lying areas, particularly the women, children and old age people. He told the Collectors to coordinate with all departments to prevent any major damages or human losses. He wanted relief teams to be kept ready to rush them to the affected areas whenever and wherever needed. Though the total rainfall in these districts are normal, the heavy rains in the last couple of days inundated some of the villages and other low lying areas. The Human loss is put at seven (East Godavari-4, Adilabad-2 and Khammam-1), Livestock loss is total 61 and 348 houses were damaged. The Chief Minister asked the Collectors to send teams of officials to the water-logged areas to drain out the water and prevent any damages and breaches. He wanted the people to be evacuated from the low lying areas as a precautionary measure without waiting for the area to be flooded. The Chief Minister was told that rainfall was very heavy in Adilabad and Vizianagaram districts. The District Collectors told the Chief Minister that all measures were taken to meet the situation and official teams were deployed wherever needed. They assured the Chief Minister that the situation is under control. The Chief Minister will hold a review meeting tomorrow at 11.00 am with the Commissioner, Disaster Management and other departments concerned on the situation arising out of the heavy rains in some of the districts. He will also review the relief measures undertaken.
