Abdul Razzaq won the man of the match

Hyderabad|India|Oct'2008: The 19th match of the ICL 20s Indian Championship featured the much anticipated cricket encounter, with defending champions Hyderabad Heroes take on ICL- 2008 domestic Champions Chandigarh Lions, at the Tau Devi Lal stadium Gurgaon. In the end it was a wonderful Sunday Biryani afternoon for the Hyderabad side making easy mince of the Chandigarh Lions with a big nine wicket victory. Abdul Razzaq was declared man of the match for his sparkling half century.
Chandigarh Lions won the toss and elected to bat. Sarabjit Singh & Lou Vincent opened the innings, getting a solid start; placed at 29 for no loss at the end of the third over. Harris brought on his spinner IS Reddy in the fifth over who struck immediately trapping the dangerous Vincent to end the 39 run partnership for this first wicket. Vincent's little cameo was worth 20 runs off 15 balls and included 3 fours and 1 six. At the end of the first five overs the Lions from Punjab were placed at 43/1. Quick wickets of Cairns and Sarabjit in the 7th & 8th over respectively, had the Chandigarh Lions in a bit of a bother at 56/3. Boje & Reddy were bowling well in tandem restricting the Chandigarh side at 64/3, at the half way mark of their innings. The usually explosive TP Singh & Mongia were unable to find any momentum in their batting; compounded by some disciplined spin bowling from the Hyderabad stable.

The 14th over mark had Chandigarh Lions struggle at 93/3. The pressure eventually got to TP Singh, scoping one to long off to give the young IS Reddy his second scalp of the match in the 15th over. The impressive Inder Shekar Reddy ended his four over quota with impressive figures of 2/ 15.

The introduction of Nicky Boje in the 18th over spelt success for the Hyderabad Heroes with immediate effect; ending Dinesh Mongia's fighting knock of 38 off 32 balls, laced with 4 fours and 1 six. The Hyderabad bowlers managed to consistently maintain their stranglehold throughout the Chandigarh innings, restricting them to a partly 141/6 in their allotted 20 overs. The standout bowlers for the Hyderabad Heroes were their two left arm spinners Boje & Reddy, who ended with 2 wickets a piece.

The Hyderabad Heroes chase got off to a confident start with the experienced combination of Razzaq & Maher getting 30 runs off the first three overs. The solid partnership between the two prolific openers crossed the fifty run mark off 43 balls in the 7th over, putting the defending champions in an absolute drivers' seat at that stage of the match. Razzaq cut loose in the 11th over from Mongia, getting 16 runs of it, to power the scorecard to 89/ no loss. Razzaq brought about his fourth ICL fifty in the 12th over off 40 balls including 5 fours and 2 sixes. The marathon partnership of 123 runs for the opening wicket came to an end with the wicket of Abdul Razzaq out, for a well made 66 runs inning.  In the end the Hyderabad Heroes made easy mince of the modest target, romping home to a 9 wicket victory with over 10 balls to spare.
