Foundations 3rd Science Quiz, Call for entries

Hyderabad|India|October'2008: Dr. K. V. Rao Scientific Society which has
been established to preserve basic research and preserving, nurturing scientific
talent in young children and youth has announced entries for Science Quiz from
students of classes 8,9 and 10th from School in Hyderabad, Secunderabad,
adjoining areas and Andhra Pradesh.
Announcing this in a press note issued in city Joint Secretary of the Society
Ms. K. Ratna informed that the entry for the Quiz is Free and there is NO ENTRY
FEE. Any one can send entry, but, each team should have two members. Two teams
per school are allowed. The Prelimnary round of Quiz will be held in Hyderabad.
This prelimnary round test will consist of written test for all the
participating teams. Top six teams from the prelimnary round will be selected
for the final round of the quiz. The final round will be held in city on 8th
November in Sherwood Public School, Pet Basheerabad, Secunderabad.
The winners will be given away meritorious certificates besides the attractive
prizes. The last date for applying for the same is 3rd November, 2008.
Giving details Ms. K. Ratna expressed her anguish over the treatment meted out
to science now a days.She said India contributes only 2% to world science, while
many small countries like Cambodia and Korea contribute 3.3%. Today students
interest in Science subject has been dwindling day by day, in the country. She
further added that glamour for science has gone down. Science Labs in
educational institutions are in deplorable conditions. Foundation like Dr. K.V.
Rao Scientific Society wants to come forward to wake up the government . She
asked schools to play a role of enthusing people to respect science. She
appealed to every one to see that more students opt science, practice science
and develop science.
The annual science awards were started in the year 2001 in honour of late
Dr.K.V.Rao. The awards were instituted to promote scientific temper and thereby
encourage young scientists and school students in pursuit of their research
activities.
The Society has been presenting awards in the field of Chemistry and Allied
Sciences.
