AP to recruit 5,350 lecturers and other teaching faculty
for the Junior, degree and University colleges
~AP to have 241 degree colleges at the end of
the academic year ~
Hyderabad|India|Sept'2008:The Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy at
a meeting with the ministers and officials decided
to recruit in total 5,350 lecturers and other
teaching faculty for the Junior, degree and
University colleges soon. The Chief Minister
directed the departments of Intermediate
Education, Collegiate and higher education to go
ahead. Of this, notification has already been
issued for 500 University College teachers, 500
degree college lecturers and 1100 Junior College
lecturers.
He said under no circumstances students should
suffer for want of lecturers in colleges and hence
the decision and added that more would be
recruited in due course of time. The Chief
Minister was informed today that the ultimate aim
of the Collegiate Education department is that
each student has an appointment letter even before
the completion of degree. The department is
working towards this aim and thus restructuring
the combinations and curricula.
There are at present 183 Government degree
colleges and the Chief Minister has magnanimously
sanctioned 58 more degree colleges thus there
would be 241 degree colleges at the end of the
academic year in the State. This increase of 32%
in just one year is unprecedented and historic.
Besides there are 179 aided degree colleges also
in the State and the vision of the department is
that each student speaks in English and the
student is trained for job while studying. The
department will introduce employable and skill
oriented Add on Courses on the platform of JKC
like Accounting Executive, \Office Executive,
Basic Teaching Skills, Medical Lab Technology,
Retail Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Hospitality
and Hotel Management, Tourism and Travel
Management, Medical Transcription, Each Course is
of 300 hours duration and Target for 2008-09:
35,000 students.
As far as collegiate education is concerned, the
Chief Minister agreed that 1,000 new lecturers
will be recruited directly by APPSC in addition to
the 500 posts for which notification has already
been issued. He asked the district collectors to
identify land for new colleges. He directed the
finance to additional funds for new colleges and
contract lecturers.
The Chief Minister was informed that Engineering
Graduates: Diploma holders ratio has been brought
down form 6:1 to 4.5:1. Seats in government
polytechnics doubled from 10,505 to 20,810 and
overall increase in seats in polytechnics is 85%.
The Chief Minister has sanctioned 23 new
Government polytechnics. 350 Government Junior
Colleges are given multimedia projector and
computers and 50 new Government Junior Colleges
sanctioned this year. In addition to the 100 posts
already notified, 2,000 more posts of Jr.
lecturers will be filled up in the Government
Junior and vocational colleges through APPSC.
