Engg college to have 'electronic classrooms'


Technical education in engineering colleges in the state will go electronic for the first time in the country from November 1. A society would be formed with Minister for Technical Education as Chairman and  officials and representatives of the engineering colleges in the state  as members. The new society would monitor the resources for the proposed "electronic class rooms " .

The State government entered into an MoU with Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) to accord facilities of Ku Band through Insat-3c satellite for public purpose. With Ku Band, all engineering 
colleges can be linked for direct telecast of educational programmes through pre-prepared cassettes, hold video conferencing, create data base of colleges, students etc and internet to promote web based learning. The number of engineering colleges which were 37 in 1996,have gone upto 105
by 2000 and permission accorded for 46 new colleges, which would be set up in the next two years. The student strength has increased from 10,155 in 1996 to 26,879 by 2000.The proposed networking of these colleges would help in maintaining high standards and impart quality education. Once the project is implemented, it can be extended to ITI's, polytechnics, management institutions in the State.
