Swine Flu as all of you are aware has been around for a while now and is still creating panic amongst people.I would like to share a few facts about it and dispel some myths about swine flu to my patients.

Swine Flue is just another form of flu which causes symptoms similar to viral fever like fever ,cold, cough, body pains, occasionally rash .It is in no way different from a normal viral fever which attacks each of us innumerable times a year and we recover in 3-4 days.

It only becomes complicated or dangerous if it is not treated and leads to respiratory complications ,otherwise it comes and goes like a normal viral fever. So all that you need to do when you or your family members catch a cold, cough or fever JUST BE IN TOUCH WITH YOUR DOCTOR.

Pl do not read too much into the horrible figures the media is bombarding at our face each morning in the news paper and pl do not panic! The fact is that only a few hundreds have died of swine flu all over India since the outbreak started but we have hundreds dying each day in our country due to gastroenteritis, malaria and other complications.

One day at my clinic a father ,mother and a 3year old child walked in to a packed waiting hall wearing masks... they of course created a a lot of anxiety in the minds of all the people waiting at my clinic as to whether they had swine flu or were wearing the mask to protect themselves! The 3 yr old of course was absolutely restless wearing the mask and kept trying to remove it while the parents were desperately trying to keep it on him.

Wearing a mask is not a practical solution to the problem as a mask worn over a time is more infectious than not wearing one at all. I would strongly recommend that you wear a mask if you are having a cold and cough so that you do not spread the disease to the others and NOT as a protection.

Homeopathy does offer solution to the spread of Swine Flu by providing a preventive for Swine Flu.

I recommend Influenzinum 30 , 5 pills daily for 3 days. Please repeat it once every month till the swine flu is around. It can be safely given to infants ,pregnant and lactating mothers.
