Rain Creates Havoc as Hyderabad tries to get up to
its knees.
Hyderabad in waters
It was the worst disaster to hit AP in the last fifty years as rain hit the deck for 24
hours continuously. For those who stayed indoors in a concrete house on Wednesday
night did not know what had happened until the morning. Around 24cm of rainfall was recorded and a casualty of around 150 is expected today in the whole of state. The worst effected were
the slums however as they had to brave their houses for the want of their
lives. A worst situation to even view at the Vidya Nagar, which joins the way to RTC X roads.
Swift action was also not possible as every way was gutted as if some earthquake had appeared. The roads were cracked in the middle and its depth was around 10 feet.
Buffaloes lay dead on the road. Telephone lines disrupted in most parts of the city. Cars over-turned, roads broken. The worst news was around 425-430 roads were cut off from each other. Imlibun Bus stand came to a stand still. The famous Koti Bus Stand which used to be busy all the time wore a
deserted look. When one walks on the road in the waist deep waters, they stand unsure if they are going to live the next second as the man holes lay opened.
Chopper services had gained momentum once the rain stopped in the morning and they helped most of the people from the neck deep water areas. It was a great effort on the part of
Govt., on this stand point as they were able to evacuate 150 people in just more than an hours time.
Schools are closed as of now for the next two days and army had to invade in what could be said as an alternative emergency of Hyderabad. More rains are a possibility for
Friday as everyone have crossed their fingers hoping for no rain. It was a commendable effort on the part of APSRTC as they ran 50% buses in the city. Thanks to the work of Indian air force, there was a flood relief situation as food packets and water sachets were passed on to the trapped-in-water people. CDR and Apollo hospitals have started medical camps free of cost and the heavy rains had
disrupted the power also. Himayat Nagar, Ashok Nagar people had barely lived to see the next day as water flowed to more than fifteen
feet above the bridge.
The korenti bridge came to a stand still as the news came about two couple washed away in the car trying to cross the road. It was a horrible scene, seen from over the building near liberty as the whole Tank Bund looked to break free from its barrier. It was a mini-water fall near the viceroy hotel as the water dropped in
continuously. Tank Bund as of now need ten feet more rain to come on to the road and travel to the other side. The padma Colony, which comes under the back side of Shankar Mutt had a different story to share after all. The open drainage of
Musi that flows there had pulled the cars and other vehicles into it and kept pushing them to newer areas.
At this time Reachout is able to give you this "Gist" on the catastrophe. It will detail the news in about twenty four hours.
