Deltagram To Set Up Nationwide 'Delta Digital Post Offices'

Hyderabad,  August, 2001 :Deltagram, the only satellite messaging company in India, today announced its plans to set up an all India network of Delta Digital Post Offices. Delta Digital Post Offices, which will be operational in every alternate street corner, will act as vital communication links in delivering messages to people anywhere in the country. The letter or voice of those who wish to pass a message will be captured in a digital form, transmitted via Deltagram's satellite network and delivered to the recipient. While voice messages will be delivered over telephone, written communication would be delivered either over fax or through physical delivery at the address, as a print out.

"The services offered by Delta Digital Post Offices would go a long way in providing a cost effective and efficient communication facility to the masses," said Na Vijayshankaran, Executive Director of Deltagram. He adds, "The cost of our services are marginally higher than the current postal rates for ordinary letters but lower than the speed post or courier services. A voice post of one minute is priced at Rs.10 while Digital Post of one page will be offered for Rs.15".

To avail the Deltagram services, the user can walk in to the nearest Delta Digital Post Office and submit his letter or use a pre-paid Deltagram service card. One who uses the pre-paid card can just make a local phone call to the Digital Post Office, identify himself by the unique PIN number on the card and dictate his message. The message can be in any language and for any location in India.

The letter or the voice will be captured in a digital form, transmitted to Deltagram's central server located in Chennai from where it will be transmitted to the Deltagram Hub nearest to the recipient's destination. The Hub, in turn, will transfer the message to the Delta Digital Post Office nearby to the recipient and it is then delivered. The messages in the form of fax or voice posts are delivered within a short span of 15 minutes while the door delivery of letters would be done four times a day. Initially, the service would be available only at select centers and for select destinations only.

Deltagram is planning to set up a total number of 25, 000 Delta Digital post Offices connecting 150 Cities and surrounding towns and villages by the end of year 2001. The company is also looking for nationwide franchisees, who are interested in being part of Deltagram's satellite communication network.
