 IICT- ICSA Sign MoU

Hyderabad,  August, 2001 :Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT), a CSIR constituent Laboratory, and Innareddy Computer Software Associates (India) Ltd. (ICSA), a Hyderabad-based software development company, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to use Heuristic Engine (HE), a proprietary forecasting tool developed by the ICSA, for prediction of outbreak of Vector-borne diseases.

The MoU enables the city-based premier research institute to utilize the state of the art prediction model developed by Research & Development (R&D) Division of ICSA will be customized by IICT as an integrated software for forecasting well in advance the outbreak of mosquito borne diseases like Malaria, Japanese Encephalitis and Dengue among other.

HE is based on N-Dimensional Numeric Space (NDNS) and Numeric Sequence Strands (NSS) and has the capability to attain more than 90 per cent accuracy levels. The forecasting model will be designed by IICT to predict the vector density, disease transmission and the epidemiological parameters to reduce the number of positive cases in endemic areas.
The synergy between ICSA and IICT, according to Mr.G.Bala Reddy, Managing Director of ICSA, has already proved to be successful in fighting Mosquito-borne diseases in certain endemic states of North-East India, Mizoram and Sikkam. Based on these forecasts, the respective State Governments have evolved a series of well-timed measures to control and significantly reduce the number of malaria cases.

ICSA has also initiated a dialogue with the Government of Andhra Pradesh to implement the same technology to predict outbreak of agricultural pests and diseases. IICT will play a key role in establishing the Pest Diseases Information Systems (PDIS) which is an important input parameter in generating an advanced alarming system to reduce the pest infection.
