signs MoU with Intel to Train 10,000 teachers in Andhra Pradesh by 2003,
Teachers To Be Trained Under The Intel® Teach To The Future Program
Hyderabad, September, 2002:
In its endeavor to achieve 100% literacy in the
State, the AP Govt. entered into a MOU with Intel India to train 10,000
teachers in Andhra Pradesh. This announcement was made in a meeting with Dr.
Craig R Barrett, President and CEO Intel Corporation Inc USA and Mr.
Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. Teachers will be
selected for training from 1100 schools spread across Andhra Pradesh. All
teachers will be trained under the aegis of Intel® Teach To Future
Program, a global program from Intel focused on training teachers.
"Our partnership with
Intel is yet another initiative of the Government of Andhra Pradesh in
realizing Vision 2020 which would narrow the digital divide. After having
set targets to achieve 100% literacy in the state by 2005, the next step is
to impart computer education. Intel would enable in making the majority of
teachers computer literate -"said Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Minister,
Andhra Pradesh Government.
" This partnership re-establishes our belief in India emerging as a country
with a young literate population. It is indeed an exemplary initiative of
the Andhra Pradesh Government to move towards technology enabled education
in the state", said Dr. Craig Barrett.
"Our combined aim is to empower teachers with the power of computer
technology and help them discover teaching tools that tap the vast potential
of information available on the World Wide Web and use technology to
communicate this knowledge in exciting new ways," added Dr. Barrett. As part
of the Intel Teach to the Future program, 10,000 teachers in Andhra Pradesh
will be trained to use technology effectively in teaching.

To The Future Program:
Intel® Teach To The Future Program was launched in India in February 2000.
Since then, the program has spread to 20 cities and has trained over 101,613
teachers till date.

the possibilities of science and technology in education. Through this
effort, Intel supports programs that help meet student and community needs
