Samsung Launches SpinPoint P20 Hard Disk Drives offering lowest ever Cost Per Gigabyte

Hyderabad,  August, 2001 :Samsung Electronics India Information and Telecommunication Ltd. (SEIIT), the IT and Telecom giant,  announced the launch of the SpinPoint P20 Series of hard disk drives for desktop applications. These 20gb & 40gb drives with the performance of 7200 rpm spin speed are priced at 6000/- and 8000/- respectively. SpinPoint P20 drive does not inflate its acoustics, making it arguably the quietest drive in its class.

The P20 series provides the blistering performance of 7200 RPM spin speed, 9ms average seek time, a larger 2MB cache buffer, and the Ultra ATA/100 interface. With an average data transfer rate of 473 Mb per second, these drives have an acoustic noise level of 3 bels during Idle mode, providing industry leading desktop performance. As compared to Samsung's 5400 RPM SpinPoint products, the P20 series drive pumps ups the typical performance level between 20% to 25%.These drives come with Samsung's exclusive
three-year warranty.

The SpinPoint P20 series is another extension of its quietest line of drives currently available today, both in idling and operation. Using Samsung's own NoiseGuard(superscript: TM) acoustic suppression technology and SilentSeek(superscript: TM) technology, in which the drive incorporates sine wave current profiles while seeking, the P20 family drives are whisper-quiet compared with the racket produced by most drives. The SpinPoint P20 series drive is not just quiet and responsive, it also offers excellent resistance against external impact damage by employing Samsung's proprietary ImpacGuard? shock protection technology.
