ARE YOU PREPARING FOR THE ENTRANCE TEST OF MBA?

The student life is the most critical stage for anybody during their lifetime. Since the choices we make during this stage dictates the lives we lead in the future. So guys, this is the time to make the right decision and follow it perfectly. This is not an easy task, but with hard work nothing is impossible and there is a beautiful pot of gold at the end of the road waiting for you.

The degree examinations are over. All the students are now preparing for some entrance or the other since for any Post Graduate study you get admission only through an entrance test. Gone are those days when students did their PG studies in Humanities and Commerce. Any student who comes out of college with a non-professional degree is thinking of going either MBA or a MCA. These are the two professional degrees which are being asked by most of the employers as a basic qualification for the kind of the jobs available in the market today.

Needless to say, there is a heavy competition for the seats in these courses. In our previous article we
have dealt with MCA course. Now let us look into the  MBA course. The main intention behind this article is to provide comprehensive information to the students covering all the areas related to MBA course. With the process of liberalization, the country has seen the best of the business activity coming up in the private sector. We have also seen the multinationals coming into the country in a big way. To manage these commercial establishments, these companies are looking forward to the people with sound management education. This has triggered the interest among the student community to pursue the courses in Management.

LET US first deal with the ELIGIBILITY criteria for the students aspiring for MBA course.

The minimum qualification prescribed for the course by almost all the Universities in India is graduation, which is done through 10+2+3 pattern. The same eligibility criteria is prescribed even in Andhra Pradesh also.

Most students dream to do their MBA's in the IIMs due to their reputation in handling the course in the best possible way giving the best possible management education. But it is futile here to discuss about
them because their entrance test which is known as Common Admission Test (CAT) is held long ago and their admissions are underway.

COURSE CONTENT: Most colleges offer MBA under three streams. They are Finance, Marketing and Human Resources Management. Among the three Finance and Marketing are the popular streams. The first year syllabi is common to all the streams. You need to choose your area of specialization in the final year.  Of late, few colleges are offering the MBA in Information Systems or Information Technology. This stream has become quite popular now due to the popularity gained by the field of information technology.

ENTRANCE AND ADMISSION PROCEDURE.

Before we discuss the entrance procedure, we should first demarcate the colleges in AP offering this
course. There are those colleges which are approved by the AICTE and affiliated to different Universities of AP and those which are approved by the AICTE and are not affiliated to any of the Universities of AP. This second category which are not affiliated to any of the Universities have their own way of admission process. They conduct their own entrance test and may also give admissions based on the MBACET. That means they have their own discretion for the admission procedure.

Now we shall discuss about the first category. In AP, the admissions to MBA are made through a common entrance examination called MBACET. This examination is common to all the universities in A.P. But the common part ends with the entrance itself. Admissions are made University-wise i.e., Once the result of the entrance is out, the students have to apply for admission to the University of their respective region. This may change in the coming years. The government is seriously considering to centralize admissions to MBA as it is now being done with  Engineering and Medicine. The entrance examination consists of objective type questions to be finished in stipulated time. The questions are mainly asked from the following areas:

Business Aptitude and Managerial Aptitude.
Business Mathematics - consisting of problems on numbers, fractions, ration & proportion, percentage,
simple & compound interest, time & work & distance, menstruation, data sufficiency etc,.

Analytical and Logical Reasoning - Number & Letter series, Analogies, Classification, Coding-Decoding, Logical diagrams, Syllogism, Interpretation of date, Analytical Reasoning etc,.

Students preparing for the entrance may practice the objective questions based on the above syllabus by their own following the standard books and guides or they may knock the doors of the coaching institutes for the same. There are many coaching centers in Hyderabad which offer the best coaching in a less amount of time. Examination of this kind is race against time. You need to complete the entire paper within the stipulated two hours. Since most of the questions are mathematics oriented and critical reasoning type students usually fell short of time in the examination hall. To overcome this students should do a lot of hard work by practicing such questions by fixing time limit, which would enable them to solve questions at a faster pace. So, in the world full of competition, if the aim is to be a management professional, sustained dedication coupled with hard work is a must. So guys, gear yourself for the challenge and move ahead. The success would be yours.
