Maya Academy launches
state-of-art animation training facility in Hyderabad
Hyderabad, November' 03: Maya Academy of Advanced
Cinematics (MAAC), a leading animation and special effects institute, which is a
division of Maya Entertainment Ltd. (MEL), launched its first state-of-the-art
high technology multimedia education facility in the city today. MEL is a
venture of noted Bollywood director Ketan Mehta (Maya Memsaab, Yeh Hai India,
etc.) and actress Deepa Sahi. MEL is incidentally also providing special effects
for Bollywood blockbuster “The Rising”, starring Aamir Khan and Rani Mukherjee
amongst others
Equipped with the latest equipment, multimedia courseware and high tech
laboratory, the centre would have a faculty drawn from the upper echelons of the
entertainment industry to impart quality career oriented education. These
include, besides the promoters, Biju D. the force behind the special effects of
Jajantaram Mamantaram, amongst others.
Said Ms. Deepa Sahi, Director of Maya Entertainment (MEL), “We chose Hyderabad
because of its serious commitment to technology and its penchant for quality
cinema.” She added that the Indian animation industry is currently pegged at
$550 million with 42%, 31% and 15% of its animation content in Film & Broadcast,
Gaming and Web respectively. The slowing down of the U.S. economy, the emergence
of new markets as well as the encroachment of 3D over the 2 D market is expected
to provide India with over $2 billion worth animation business within the next
three years. That adds up to an astronomical $15 billion - the estimated target
for India’s animation industry five years from today.
With India fast becoming the globally preferred destination for outsourcing,
given its mix of top-notch quality and economical costs, the demand for
animators is expected to cross 35,000 to 40,000 by 2008 – up more than 10 fold
from the current 3,000 animators available in the country today.

latest digital technology tools for excellence in films, television and
audio-visual media and create quality content for the infotainment industry
worldwide.
