Finding Forrester

Director

Gus Van Sant

Cast Sean Connery, F. Murray Abraham, Anna Paquin, Rob Brown, Busta Rhymes

This is what was thought to be a movie that can give "Gladiator" a run for the money for Oscar awards. But though it did not happen so, "Finding Forrester" is an absorbing, inspriational stuff (especially for the fans of Arundhati Roy). The movie is about an old seasoned pulitzer prize winner author and a young lad whose talent is always under utilized, be it basket ball or be it novel writing. The bottom line "The movie is for Novel Writers"

Jamal, Rob brown featuring in his first movie, is a gifted basket ball player also a under rated writer. But unlike his basket ball skills, his writing skills are always ignored by his peers. Then comes the meaty part of the movie where Jamal meets Mr.Forrester (Sean Connery....usually chewing the roles to perfection). Forrester lives in solitude for over five decades. The movie moves on with Jamal being recognised as the scholarship kid and goes on to new school and meets Anna Paquin (Who plays the role of Claire). Whats more Jamal and Forrester re-discover the passion of novel writing.

The relationship between Jamal and Forrester is the centerpiece of the film. Jamal is an extremely intelligent boy who needs direction and focus, which Forrester provides by helping Jamal realize his true potential. On the other hand, Forrester is a man who has long given up on the world and his ability to write, preferring to live out his days within the confines of his apartment. Through his relationship with Jamal, Forrester is able to rediscover his passion for the written word, and the simple pleasures of the outside world that he has denied himself for so long.
