Story :NTR's
parents die at a young age and he is adopted by the
villagers of Kondaveedu, who all take up the
responsibility of bringing him up.JD (Issar)
and Pothuraju (Mani) rape a 11-year-old in the village.
NTR who is also the caretaker of the village, vows to
take revenge on the big people and their sons for
committing the heinous crime. The quenching of revenge
forms the remaining story.
Performances : After growing to such a stage as a
performer, NTR's graph as an actor has never come down,
so this film is not an exception. As an actor, he does
his part very well – be it the emotional scenes, dances
or fights. Carrying off the role on one's shoulder is
not possible unless the scripts supports it. Sameera
Reddy was seductive as the 'Phalghat Pala Papa' who
shakes a leg with NTR, lusts for him and entertains the
masses. A bad debut, but a good 'show' (pun intended).
Amisha is tender as Subbu – NTR's neice, but is non-glam
in the film. She is restricted to the songs. Kalaibhavan
Mani's character is just an extension of his own in
Gemini, but it entertains. Arthi walks away with the
honors playing item girl in 'Rajahmundry ke Rangasaanive'
song. Bramhanandam's comedy is in bad taste, while Asish
Vidyarthi plays a good cop, which is a relief. Rahul
Dev, Jeeva and Puneet Issar are wasted in the non
coherent script. Chalapati Rao, Kaikala, Ali and
Manorama were fine in their role. The artistes did their
bit to sum it up.
Technical Department : Ravishankar has to take the
blame for such a lame script, which is just a rehash of
old revenge dramas. Added to that is B. Gopal's 80s
style narration. The 20 minutes of the film is gripping
especially the hero's intro, after which its only a
downward drive. The rape of a 11-year old is horrid, but
doesn't evoke sympathy from the viewer as it seems
farce. Such things might be reported in the papers, but
its not meant to be shown on celluloid. Added to that is
the excessive gore and bloodshed, that further dampens
the hackneyed plot. Its almost pre-decided in action
films, that a Sumo van has to be blast when the villain
is angry.
Mani
Sharma delivers a few good tunes like 'Rajahmundry ke' ,
'Yeluko Nayaka' but the songs were placed badly, taking
off all of a sudden. The picturization was of the
standards, but nothing that stands out of the crowd.
Vijay's fights are adequate, but the chopping off heads
was not required. Paruchuri Brother's powerful dialogues
are stand-alone and not weaved well into the scene,
hence loose impact though they are good. Kotagiri
Venkateswara Rao would have had a hard time editing the
film, but still a lot of portions could have been
chopped off. Ravindra Babu's cinematography is alright.
The producer claims to have made the film with a budget
of 18 crores, but that doesn't show up on screen as
nearly a sum of 8-9 crores were spent on the
remunerations alone.
Analysis : The first half is mediocre, but the
second half is a big let down. NTR will soon become the
brand name for bloodshed and violence, if he doesn't
give up on such films. Recently, he said Adi and
Simhadri had damaged his career creating an image more
than what he can handle. Knowing that he has a
'larger-than-life' image, the upcoming superstar should
buck up atleast now, after so many mistakes and attempt
something fresh – yet, with commercial elements. The
film carries mammoth expectations considering the fact
that the makers were talking about industry records in
the audio function and muruath event. But, finally it
disappoints. The openings are terrific, thanks to the
hype and the 280 print release – but lets see what
result is in store at the boxoffice.
