APGENCO bags The India Power Award-2009 for
overall utility performance in Thermal Generation
Hyderabad|India|November'2009: The rapid growth of the Power and
Energy sectors in India is being driven by notable achievements and
measures that are taking place continually. The Council of Power Utilities
and KW conferences Pvt Ltd have initiated a visible and credible platform
– the INDIA POWER AWARDS - to recognize the achievements and contributions
of organizations in these sectors.
Sri K.Vijayanand, Managing Director has received the Award at New Delhi
from Sri Bharatsinh Solanki, Hon’ble Minister of State for Power,
Government of India along with Sri C. Radha Krishna, Director (Thermal &
Projects) on 17.11.2009. This is second consecutive year APGENCO has
bagged this award.
Explaining the factors contributing to the high performance, Sri
K.Vijayanand stated that it has been possible due to continuous
encouragement given by Government of Andhra Pradesh and very good work
turned out by the Engineers and O&M staff of APGENCO. Regular review
meetings at Headquarters and Plant level have ensured good performance for
the year.
During the year 2008-09, APGENCO Thermal Power Stations have achieved a
Plant Load Factor of 86.7% against all India average of 77.2% and stood
3rd in the country amongst all public sector undertakings. Availability
factor of thermal station has been improved to 93.3%, APGENCO has achieved
highest generation of 33521 MU since inception surpassing the previous
record of 33323 MU achieved during 2007-08. Thermal power stations have
achieved highest generation of 25680 MU. This is 8.4% more than the last
year’s generation of 23687 MU.
Capacity Addition: Keeping in view of future power needs of the state
APGENCO has taken up massive capacity addition program of 18595 MW by
completing 22 new power projects.
APGENCO is pioneer in the field of environmental friendly clean coal
technology and taken up 182 MW Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC)
plant first of its kind in the Country at Dr. Narla Tata Rao TPS,
Vijayawada.
APGENCO is the first power utility in the Country to establish highest
size of 800 MW capacity units with new generation super critical
technology at Krishnapatnam in Nellore district. Government of India
recognized the Project cost as a benchmark price for 800 MW supercritical
Thermal Units in the country. Two units of 800MW each of the project are
programmed to be commissioned by June2012 and December2012 respectively.
APGENCO has also planned to set up 4000 MW mega power project near
Vodarevu in Prakasam district and 2000 MW Nuclear power plant at Kadapa or
Srikakulam as joint venture project with Nuclear Power Corporation of
India Limited for which project development activities are being taken up.
Expressing happiness, APGENCO Management thanked Engineers, Employees and
O&M staff for their excellent performance.
