Dr.B Raja Shekhar appointed as member of AP State Consumer Protection

Dr. B
Raja Shekhar, Faculty at the School of Management Studies and Dean,
Students' Welfare at the University of Hyderabad has been appointed as a
member of the Andhra Pradesh State Consumer Protection Council for a
period of three years. The Hon'ble Minister for Food and Civil Supplies &
Legal Metrology and Consumer Affairs is the Chairman for this Council
which has members from recognised political parties, State Level Regional
Consumer Voluntary Organisations, Consumer Experts having Legal
background, representatives from FAPCCI, CII, AIMCO, APFCT etc. Dr. B Raja
Shekhar has been appointed as one of the three Consumer Experts working in
the area of Consumer Protection.
The
objectives of the AP State Council is to promote and protect the rights of
the consumers within the state, such as:
* the right to be
protected against the marketing of goods and services which are hazardous
to life and property;
* the right to be informed
about the quality, quantity, potency, purity, standard and price of goods
or services, as the case may be so as to protect the consumer against
unfair trade practices;
* the right to be assured,
wherever possible, access to a variety of goods and services at
competitive prices;
* the right to be heard
and to be assured that consumer's interests will receive due consideration
at appropriate forums;
* the right to seek
redressal against unfair trade practices or restrictive trade practices or
unscrupulous exploitation of consumers; and
* the right to consumer
education.
Dr. B. Raja Shekhar did
his Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering from Acharya Nagarjuna
University and Master’s in Business Administration from Osmania
University. Subsequently, Dr. Shekhar was awarded Doctorate degree in
Business Management by Kakatiya University. Added to above, he acquired
two Post-Graduate Diplomas in Personnel Management & Industrial Relations
(from Kakatiya University) and Computer Science (from University of
Hyderabad). He has completed M.Sc. in Industrial Psychology from Sri
Venkateswara University. Dr. Shekhar also attended the Faculty Development
Programme (FDP) of four months duration at the Indian Institute of
Management, Ahmedabad.
Dr. Raja Shekhar authored
a book “Issues and Dimensions of Consumer Protection” (Consumers Awareness
Research Society (CARS), Hyderabad) and edited a book “Emerging Trends in
Consumer Protection” (Allied Publishers). Dr. Shekhar has coordinated a
Post Graduate Diploma in Consumer Education (PGDCED) offered by Centre for
Distance Education of University of Hyderabad. Dr. Shekhar has been
writing several research papers in the area of Consumer Protection.
