AP to generate 15,945 MW through 17 projects in next 5 years
Hyderabad|India|February'2010: The Chief Minister K
Rosaiah said that the Government of Andhra Pradesh will strive every nerve
and put in all efforts to achieve additional power generation of 15,945 MW
by taking up 17 new power projects in the next 4 to 5 years. This will
enable the State to meet the future power demand growing very rapidly in
all sectors like Agriculture, Industry and domestic etc.
The Chief Minister will lay foundation stone on 14th February for the 600
MW Singareni Thermal Power Plant at Pegadapalli village at Jaipur Mandal
in Adilabad District and 1st phase of 700 MW out of 2,100 MW Gas-based
power project promoted by A.P.Genco at Nedunur, Thimmapur Mandal in
Karimnagar.
In this connection, Mr Rosaiah had a brief discussion on the demand and
generation of power with Principal Secretary, Energy, Suthirtha
Bhattacharya, MD, A.P. Transco, Ajay Jain, MD, A.P.Genco, K.Vijayanand and
MD, SCCL, Narsing Rao and other top officials.
The Phase-I of the Karimnagar gas-based power project at Nedunur will be
operationalised by July, 2013 and the thermal project at Pegadapalli in
Adilabad is expected to be completed by June 2013.
The Chief Minister said that setting up of the Thermal Power Plant in the
backward area of Pegadapalli in Adilabad District and 1st phase of 700 MW
gas-based project in Karimnagar will spur the economic growth and help
setting up other industries. Industrialisation of the area will provide
vast employment opportunities in the region.
The Chief Minister was told that out of 17 new power projects, 10 projects
(4063 MW) are under construction and 7 projects (11,282 MW) are under
development stage. Important projects under construction are: Thermal:
Kakatiya Stage-I (500 MW), Kothagudem Stage-VI (500 MW), Rayalaseema
Stage-III (210 MW), Krishnapatnam (1600 MW), Kakatiya Stage-II (600 MW)
and Hydel: Priyadarshini Jurala (234 MW), Nagarjunasagar Tailpond Dam
(50MW), Pulichintala (120 MW), Lower Jurala (240 MW), Pochampadu (9 MW).
And 539 MW will be added by commissioning Kakatiya 500 MW and 39 MW of 4th
unit of Priyadarshini Jurala HEP by end of March, 2010.
It is programmed to add 843 MW by commissioning Kothagudem Stage-VI (500
MW) and Rayalaseema Stage-III (210MW) 78 MW of Jurala HEP and other Hydel
projects of 55 MW by 31-12-2010. 235 MW is targeted to be added during
year 2011-12 by commissioning Pulichintala HEP 90 MW, Lower Jurala HEP 120
MW and Nagarjunasagar Tailpond 25 MW by duly synchronized our works with
that of Irrigation Department. Another 3020 MW will be added during
2012-2013 by adding 1600 MW Sri Damodaram Sanjeevaiah Thermal Power
Station, 600 MW of Kakatiya TPP Stage-II, 120 mw of Lower Jurala HEP & 700
mw Karimnagar Gas Power Project.
Thus APGENCO is all poised to add 4110MW thermal and 653MW Hydel capacity
by next three years i.e. by 2012-13. The Project is being developed by
Andhra Pradesh Power Development Company ltd. (APPDCL), a joint venture of
APGENCO and APDISCOMs. Ultimate capacity of 2100 MW will be developed in
three stages of each block of 700 MW. Initially one block of 700 MW is
taken up under Stage-I. The total present estimated cost of the project
for 2100 MW is Rs.8632 Cr. Rs.3336 Crores will be incurred to complete
Stage-I. 430 acres of land required for developing 2100 MW project is
acquired at a total cost of Rs 13.55 Cr. 1.30 TMC of water from Lower
Manair Dam is allotted for 3x700 MW power project.
Stage-I of the plant is proposed on RLNG as fuel till firm allocation of
gas is made from D-6 of KG Basin. 3.24 MCMD of RLNG will be required for
1st block of 700 MW unit. The gas will be tapped through a spur pipe line
from Shamirpet to Karimnagar from East–West Gas Pipe line by spending Rs.
350 Crores. All clearances required for establishing the project are
already obtained. The Zero date of the project will commence during July,
2010 and 1st block of 700 MW will be completed within 36 months i.e., by
July, 2013. Each 700 MW block consists of two Gas Turbo Generators of 225
MW each, and one Steam Turbo Generator of 250 MW. Each 700 MW block
generates 4905 Million Units per annum worth Rs.3,500 Crores. Project will
provide direct/indirect employment for about 2000 people during
construction and about 600 people during operation of the plant, besides a
significant impact on the economy.
Mr Rosaiah was told that fly ash generated in the power project can be
used by the cement industries to enhance their production capacities and
also helps in setting up Fly Ash based bricks in the local area. The coal
will be sourced from the closed and abandoned under ground mines (Sreerampur
2&2A mines), which is locked up in pillars which would have otherwise been
lost for ever. The Chief Minister was explained that out of 600 MW power,
about 150 MW will be used internal consumption of the company and balance
will be fed to the State grid.
Details of the Proposed project are as follows: capacity:600 MW; Location-Pegadapalli
village, Jaipur Mandal, Adilabad District; estimated capital cost-Rs.2,700
crores and no budgetary support from Govt. Investment is totally met from
internally generated resources and loans. The complete land required is
acquired and is already in company's possession.
The Chief Minister was told that there is no displacement of persons.
Hence, R&R is not applicable; Coal source is 2.39 m.t.coal per annum from
Sreerampur Opencast Project (abandoned under ground mines i.e. SRP-2&2A)
having 63 m.t. of reserves will meet the requirement for about 25 years.
