Telugu directors seek more funds and mini
theatres for children's films screening
Hyderabad|India|November'2009: Telugu film personalities have urged
the state government to take lead in promoting children’s film movement by
taking it to districts and also in providing more subsidies to film makers
in the state .
Film directors and film makers Tamma Reddy Bharadwaj and G. Narayan Rao
said the Andhra Pradesh Government which had taken lead in bringing the
children’s film festival to Hyderabad on a permanent basis should also
become a role model in production and distribution of children’s films
with adequate concessions .
Both were addressing press conference at the Media centre of the 16th
International children’s film festival at the Prasad’s IMAX. Veteran
journalist Sri. G S Varadachari ,Chairman of the Media committee of the
festival presided over the press conference.
Sri Thamma Reddy Bharadwaj said the government should increase the subsidy
quantum from the present Rs.35 to 25 lakh ceiling . “ It is difficult to
produce quality children films at that cost which too is given in one or
two instalments “ he said .
The popular director of award winning “ Anthapuram “ and chiranjeevi
starrer Kiraya Mogudu , Bharadwaj said the government should fully finance
the children’s films and chose good directors to do films for them . “ Not
for just film festivals sake but for screening for children on topics of
children’s interest on a regular annual basis “ he said.
Bharadwaj said the film festivals like the present one functioned as ‘
work shops’ for telugu film makers and directors . “ To further promote
the children’s film movement the festival should go to the district towns
“ he said advocvating that the golden elephant award winning movies should
be taken to districts .
Another popular telugu film maker and actor G. Narayan Rao said that
children’sfilm producers found it difficult to commercially exhibit their
movies due to lack support from distributors as these films were not
highly profitable . “ So the government should promote mini- theaters in
districts to screen children’s films “ he demanded .
He also said the government should also extend finance liberally for
production of chidlren’s films in the state. Child artist Kum Sunayana of
Ammoru fame also participated in the media conference .
