Bharat
Biotech Celebrates World Environment Day through Bamboo Plantation
Hyderabad|India|June'2009:
Bharat Biotech International and its employees celebrated the World
Environment Day by planting Bamboo samplings at their facility in
Genome Valley . Dr. Krishna Mohan, President, BBIL, distributed
saplings to the employees.
This was part of the CII and its members drive to mark the world
environment day. More than 3000 seedlings of Bamboo were planted on
5th June'09 by CII members who participated in Bamboo Plantation drive
actively.
The theme for WED 2009 is 'Your Planet Needs You-UNite to Combat
Climate Change'. It reflects the urgency for nations to agree on a new
deal at the crucial climate convention meeting in Copenhagen some 180
days later in the year, and the links with overcoming poverty and
improved management of forests.
A grass, not wood, bamboo is the fastest growing plant on the planet
-- some species can grow up to 1 meter per day. |

It matures and can be harvested every six
years (a lumber tree can take 20 years), does not need to be replanted
(it's generated from a system of roots). |
Bamboo is also a critical element in the balance of oxygen and carbon
dioxide in the atmosphere as it helps restore degraded areas and generate
more oxygen than an equivalent standard of trees. Bamboo lowers light
intensity and protects against ultraviolet rays and is an atmospheric and
soil purifier. This once-exotic material is showing up everywhere. It's
durable, plentiful, very quick to grow and a good source of oxygen.
