Warfare celebrates Golden Jubilee

Officers Mess in Secunderabad
Hyderabad|India|November'2009: College of Air Warfare (CAW) had
organised a Banquet at Officers’ Mess, Secunderabad on 29 Nov 2009 to
celebrate Golden Jubilee of its inception. His Excellency Shri ND Tiwari,
Governor of Andhra Pradesh, Air Marshal VR Iyer, Air Officer
Commanding-in-Chief, Training Command, Bangalore, retired Air Force
Officers, Civil and Military dignitaries graced the occasion.
His Excellency Shri ND Tiwari cut the Golden Jubilee cake and Air Marshal
VR Iyer released a “Coffee Table Book” depicting the role and glorious
past of the College, during the ceremony.
Christened as “School of Land Air Warfare” (SLAW) on 01 Jul 1959, CAW
initially trained Army and Air Force Officers in Counter Surface Force,
Air Transport and Air Defence Operations. Subsequently, the unit was
renamed “Joint Air Warfare School” (JAWS) since Naval officers were
included in the course. The School was further renamed as “College of Air
Warfare” (CAW) in January 1976. CAW is situated right in the heart of
Secunderabad.
Motto of the College is ‘United We Prepare’, which signifies the
inter-service nature of the institution. The establishment in its present
avtar conducts training in joint operations for officers of Army, Navy and
Air Force. Apart from Higher Air Command Course, CAW conducts Basic and
Advanced Professional Knowledge courses for young aviators of the Indian
Armed Forces and also for the officers of friendly countries. The College
also trains operational Commanders for higher appointments in the three
services. Besides conducting various courses, the institution is entrusted
with the responsibility of developing concepts and doctrinal aspects of
Air power.
