Meeting between the Dy. Chairman, Planning Commission and CM held in
Delhi
Hyderabad|India|April'2010: At the outset, Sri Montek Singh
Ahluwalia, the Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission, welcomed Sri. K.
Rosaiah, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and officers from the State for
the meting on finalization of Annual Plan-2010-11 outlay. In his inaugural
note, the Dy. Chairman has congratulated the Hon’ble Chief Minister and
people of the state for the excellent performance achieved during the last
few years in general and last year 2009-10, in particular. He appreciated
the efforts made by the Chief Minister and team of officers in furnishing
a detailed and comprehensive reply for certain issues pertaining to
economic and social development, in a very short time. Special mention was
made by him on the state’s initiatives in agriculture and PPP projects.
At the behest of the Chief Minister, the Spl. Chief Secretary, Planning
Department has given a presentation on various sectors of the state
economy. The discussion was interactive and concerned Secretaries from the
state have responded to the issues raised by the Members, Advisors and
consultants from the Planning Commission.
The Dy. Chairman, Planning Commission has lauded the performance of the
state in various areas of development and was highly appreciative of the
implementation of innovative schemes like Arogyasri, Rajiv Udyogasri under
Skill Development programme, MGNREGA, Power reforms, SHGs etc. All the
members and officials from the Planning Commission – including the Dy.
Chairman were in full praise for the implementation of the MGNREGA and
Arogyasri, stating that Andhra Pradesh continues to be a role model and
the experiences in these programmes would be incorporated as success
stories by Government of India.
The Planning Commission has expressed concern and made certain suggestions
on issues pertaining to reduction in forest cover in the state, depletion
of ground water, bridging the gender gap in literacy, adverse sex ratio
and problem of anaemia prevalent among children and women. The Dy.
Chairman, has also suggested to furnish a detailed note on Public Private
Partnership (PPP) so that it can be circulated to other states for
adopting the same.
At the end, the Chief Minister has mentioned that Andhra Pradesh is
progressing despite the situation prevailing in the aftermath of the
global recession, drought and floods. He has assured that the State would
soon reach a high growth trajectory and sought continued support from the
Planning Commission and Government of India.
The Hon. CM thanked the Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission for the
Commission’s continued and unstinted support of the Planning Commission
and the Government of India for the State’s development. The Planning
Commission has approved the size of the Annual Plan of Rs. 36,800 crores
for 2010-11, which is higher than the Budget Estimate of Rs. 36,728 crores
in 2010-11 as approved by the State Legislature and also higher than the
approved outlay of Rs. 33,497 crores in 2009-10.
The meeting was attended to by the Vice-Chairman, State Planning Board,
Chief Secretary and other senior officers from the Government of Andhra
Pradesh.
