Awards function at Shilpakala vedika
Hyderabad|India|November'2009: The 9th Doordarshan Annual Awards
function will be held at Shilpakala vedika Hyderabad, on 30th Nov. 2009 at
6.30 p.m. Shri K. Rosaiah, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh will be the
chief guest. Shri S. Jagathrakshakan, Union Minister of State for
Information and Broadcasting will be the guest of honour. Shri B.S. Lalli,
CEO, Prasar Bharathi and Padma Bhushan Dr. Akkineni Nageswara Raso will be
the special invitees.
Ms. Aruna Sharma, Director General, Doordarshan told press persons here
that the prasara bharathi instituted the Doordarshan awards to recognize
excellence in television programming within Doordarshan. The awards are
classified into 56 categories topped by the much sought after trophy for
the best regional Kendra across the country. Among the popular categories
awards will be presented to the most innovative programme, best music
programme, best agriculture show, best documentary, best tele film, best
serial, best children’s film, best women’s programme, best sports
programme, best news report and also best TV show and life time
achievement award, etc.
She said that Prasara Bharathi instituted the Doordarshan Annual Awards in
2001 since then the DD awards are become an annual feature combined with
award presentation and entertaining cultural component with performance by
well known artistes of India. This year Hyderabad is the host of the 9th
Doordarshan Annual Awards function which is being held for the first time.
Ms. Aruna Sharma said that there will be follow up of awards distribution
like award winners will form a team to produce good quality programmes for
Doordarshan. She said that Doordarshan at its prime time has introduced
soap opera at 9.30 a.m. daily at its National channel. DD also plans to
start newer version of popular TV serial “Hum Log” which would attract a
large number of viewers. She said that DD has set target of Rs.950 crore
revenue this year and till October Rs.423 crore revenue has been earned
out of which the share of Doordarshan Hyderabad is to the tune of Rs.14
crore.

Director, Doordarshan Hyderabad, Shri D.S.R.B.N. Harinath Babu,
Superintending Incharge, DDK, Hyderabad, Dr. P.J. Sudhakar, Director
