celebrations across various corporates in
Hyderabad
Hyderabad|India|April'2009:
World Earth Day which was celebrated on April 22, was a day designed to inspire
awareness and appreciation for the Earth's environment.
This year many corporates have realized the significance of celebrating
the same among their organizations and are initiating many innovative
activities.Initiatives that have been taken up by various corporates in Hyderabad
on the occasion of World Earth Day:
Pegasystems:
Pegasystems Worldwide India Private Ltd is a global leader in Business
Process Management and they have opened their Indian headquarters in
Hyderabad last year. On the occasion of ‘World Earth Day’ Pega is taking
some small but significant step to spread the awareness around Eco
Conservation. Mr. Suman Reddy, MD, Pegasystems India
said, “We are at a stage where environmental crisis has reached its peak
and if nothing is done at this stage, healthy and sustainable environment
will become a far fetched dream. We at Pegasystems want to contribute to
the cause by doing our part and to celebrate the spirit of Earth Day, we
are encouraging the employees to decorate their work stations with things
that are symbolic to green like feng shui plants, recycled paper, quotes
on saving Mother Earth and so on which will constantly remind them of the
cause. The dress code for the day will be green for all the associates so
that there is a consistency in thoughts in the whole Pega family and we
all work towards giving our bit. We are also going to have a green menu
for lunch in our cafeteria which will consist of lots of Salads, green
rice, aam panna and so on. Through these initiatives Pega as a responsible
corporate wants to show its commitment towards conserving the nature and
we will continue to take various such initiatives which can strengthen
this message and lead to creating a Green, Clean Earth.”
Broadridge Financial Solutions:
With the steep increase in Global Warming witnessed in last few years,
there is a critical need now for both the individuals and corporates to
work towards reducing the impact on environment. With this thought
Broadridge India have introduced ‘Hara Potta’ initiative in September
2008. Literally translating from the local lingo into “Green Boy”, Hara
Potta is the magical mascot of a new conscience at Broadridge India. The
company implemented a few initiatives like-
• Usage of cloth Napkins instead of Paper Tissues and Paper Napkins
• Usage of Pencils instead of Pens
• Broadridge Hyderabad sponsoring the maintenance of the park next to the
office.
• Encourage people to use stairs
• Most of our floors are covered with glass walls, which consume more AC
to neutralize the temperature. (Use reflective glass)
• Use better quality tissues in rest room so that we use ONE for one time
hand drying.
• Switch Off the lights during daytime
• Switch Off Monitors as and when they lock their systems for breaks / end
of day
On the occasion of Earth Day Broadridge is doing weeklong celebration in
their office to promote the cause. They have started a campaign called
BREATHE which stands for Broadridge Earth Energizer and they have a core
team to spread this concept amongst other associates. Under the weeklong
campaign associates painted the logo and cause on cloth and put it up in
the entire facility. Associates are encouraged to wear Eco friendly
dressing like Khadi closthes. Reduction of pollution is aimed by promoting
the Car Pooling system. There will lot of fun activities also organized
for the employees like Dumb Charades, Jumbles and Puzzles to create
awareness around the cause.
Commenting on the occasion, Ms Rajita Singh, HR Head, Broadridge
Financial Solutions India said, “Each one of us has to feel the
pain inflicted upon Mother Earth by our actions and take remedial steps
and our drive is a small step taken towards the same.”
Our Place Restaurant:
On the occasion of World Earth Day, Mr. S. Subhash, Managing
Director, Our Place said “In our endeavor to spread awareness
towards World Earth day, we will be treating our guests with a free
complimentary green drink (jaljeera with pudina) to mark the spirit of
going green today. Our staff has also taken up the initiative to plant
additional saplings to Our Place’s existing collection of thousand plants
for an even greener ambience for our guests.”
Ista Hyderabad:
Ista Hyderabad, in view of the hospitality industry, has taken up the
green cause this Earth day with great commitment as this is a high
‘natural resource’ usage industry and so has realized the need to act
responsibly. Commenting on the occasion, Mr. Jaideep Anand, GM, Ista
Hyderabad “At Ista Hyderabad, water conservation is a key
philosophy focused on and the guest will be given the decision in his room
for optional change in room/bathroom linen if he/she so desires. Post
treatment, the water from the guest rooms is used for horticulture. Water
harvesting is part of the next stage of initiatives following Earth day
wherein the new wings of the hotel will offer the possibility.”
To encourage environmentally-aware behaviors this Earth Day onwards,
employees will be under constant training in water conservation and
product conservation. Through out the hotel there is an energy
conservation plan put in place with the hotel’s ‘Building Management
System’ leading the optimum use of HLP only on a need base.
