The BRIC countries including India showed a pattern of growth while all
other countries are facing economic crunch and slowdown consequent to the
global melt down. That is because India after China has been the most
sought after country for foreign investments. Many non –ferrous companies
of India too have started investing and acquiring mines etc in countries
like UK, USA and Australia said Dr. L Pugazhenthy, President, Indian
Institute of Metals and Executive Director, ILZDA during the Presidential
remarks at the National Seminar on “Non ferrous Metals (NFM) and Global
Melt Down (GMD)–India‘s strategies” organized by Non Ferrous Division and
Hyderabad chapter of the Indian Institute of Metals (IIM) at Green Park
Hotel in Hyderabad, today.
During the inaugural address, Shri P Parvathisem, Former President ,IIM
and former CMD , NALCO & also Hindustan Copper Ltd said that India
remained unaffected by the global meltdown mainly because of various

conservative in our approach. India is expected to grow at about 7%. India
witnessed substantial growth, progress in Zinc and Copper production and
have to progressively invest in exploration and mining. In case of
Aluminium, India is endowed with rich deposits and required R&D efforts
for making Alumina. In case of Lead, we should strive to develop it in a
big way, he said.
