Major General KD Singh -The first GOC of
Andhra Sub Area

Hyderabad|India|February'2010: Brigadier Kunwar Digvijay Singh,
Commander, Headquarters Andhra Sub Area on his promotion as Major General,
has assumed the newly created and upgraded post of General Officer
Commanding (GOC), Headquarters Andhra Sub Area on 20th February, 2010.
Major General K.D. Singh was commissioned in the Madras Regiment in 1976.
A graduate of the prestigious Defence Services Staff College and having
attended the Higher Command Course at Army War College, Mhow, he has held
a number of prestigious command and posts including Commander of an
Infantry Brigade at a High Altitude Area in Jammu and Kashmir, before
being posted as Commander Andhra Sub Area in December, 2008. He is the
first officer to hold the upgraded and newly introduced post of General
Officer Commanding.
Major General K.D. Singh is responsible for coordinating matters relating
to internal security, assistance to civil authorities, defence land and
welfare of ex-servicemen in Andhra Pradesh State.
Headquarters Andhra Sub Area was raised in March 1947 as Secunderabad Sub
Area with Brigadier J.C. Martin as its first Commander. Since its
formation, it has gone several changes in its nomenclature including
Deccan Independent Sub Area in 1949, Andhra Independent Sub Area in 1963
and finally on 1st December, 1973, it was named Headquarters Andhra Sub
Area.
