Hyderabad|India|June'2009:
Gangavaram Port, the deepest and the most modern port in the country, has
achieved yet another historic Milestone by discharging 71,808 MT in a
single day from the Capesize Vessel "MV Go Patoro" carrying Non-Coking
Coal for Adani Enterprises Limited, which is more than three times the
discharge rates achieved at any other Port in India.
Gangavaram Port has surpassed its earlier record of discharging 57,000 MT
of Coal in a single day from MV Pearl Seas on April 20, 2009 by achieving
a discharge rate of 71,808 MT in single day. This is the third fully laden
Capesize Vessel that the Port has handled. Capesize Vessels are the
largest vessels (up to 200,00dwt) that can carry dry bulk cargoes like
coal and iron ore. Presently, Gangavaram Port is the only port in the
country that has the required depth and infrastructure to directly berth
and handle such large capesize vessels.
The Port has till date handled around 100 Vessels including 3 Capesize
coal vessels and 41 gearless Panamax vessels with almost no pre-berthing
delay ensuring congestion free and efficient port operations. The Port
handles a range of commodities such as Coking and Non-Coking Coal, Iron
Ore, Limestone, Bauxite, Steel Cargo, Raw Sugar, Project Cargo, Slag and
Scrap.
Gangavaram Port with its deep draft berth and the latest state of the art
mechanized cargo handling systems has redefined port operational standards
in India resulting in substantial and unprecedented benefits to the
importers/exporters on account of savings due to reduced ocean freight and
efficient cargo handling services.
Gangavaram Port is located at Visakhapatnam, the industrial nerve center
of Andhra Pradesh around Latitude 17° 37' N and Longitude 83° 14' E, about
15 kms south of Visakhapatnam Port. The Gangavaram Port, located on East
Coast of India, is the most modern, all weather, deepwater, multipurpose
port offering significant cost savings to Importers and Exporters in the
hinterland. The site for Gangavaram Port is the best location for
development of a modern all weather, deepwater, multipurpose and truly
next generation port. The coast here forms a bay between Yarada Hill at
north and Mukkoma Hill at south. A creek in between these two hills forms
Balacheruvu Lagoon, where the natural port of Gangavaram has been
developed.
