of Andhra Pradesh, Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy inaugurated and dedicated
the Gangavaram Port to the Nation at a grand ceremony held on 13th July at
the Port. Gangavaram Port is the deepest and the most modern port of
India, which has redefined port operational standards in the country.
Also, gracing the occasion were Hon’ble Member of Parliament Dr. KVP
Ramachandra Rao, Hon’ble Minister of State for HRD Smt. Purandeswari,
Hon’ble Minister of Major Industries, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh, Sri Kanna
Lakshmi Narayana, Hon’ble Minister of Tribal Welfare, Govt. of Andhra
Pradesh, Sri P. Balaraju and other senior leaders and official of
Government of Andhra Pradesh.
Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Dr.Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy on the event of
Inauguration and Dedication ceremony of Gangavaram Port said, “Gangavaram
Port is the deepest and the eco-friendly Port in the country. This is a
special day in the history of Vizag with the opening of the second port in
the city. I congratulate Sri. D.V.S Raju for developing this port which
will be helpful for Industrial development of the State. Further to this
he also added that it is a joint venture with the Government. Government
has supported by providing land and R&R package to the villagers.
Gangavaram Management has already provided 300 jobs to the project
affected people and another 300 jobs will be provided in a few days.”
Gangavaram Port is a public private initiative by the Government of Andhra
Pradesh. Strategically located in Visakhapatnam, Gangavaram Port is the
deepest and the most modern port in India with all weather round the year
operations. The Port’s state of the art highly mechanized cargo handling
equipments will result in efficiency of operations and substantial savings
to importers and exporters. Gangavaram Port is the only port in the
country that has the infrastructure to handle the largest bulk cargo
vessels of upto 200,000dwt i.e. the Capesize vessels. Gangavaram Port has
the unique distinction of being the only greenfield port project to be
completed in such a short span of time.
While welcoming the dignitaries and speaking on the occasion, Sri D.V.S
Raju, CMD, Gangavaram Port, said, “Our vision was always to create a truly
world class port infrastructure in the county. We are delighted that
Gangavaram Port is now operational and with its deep draft berths and most
advanced mechanized handling systems will act as the gateway port for
imports and exports from India. Its ability to handle larger vessels
efficiently will result in substantial savings to trade and port users.”
The Port will provide efficient cargo handling services for a variety of
bulk cargo groups including Coal, Iron Ore, Bauxite, Limestone, Steel
products, Fertilizers, etc. The Port, its related facilities and material
handling system have been planned to meet the highest environmental
standards.
