Hyderabad|India|February'2010: The Chief Minister K Rosaiah
congratulated the GMR Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad for
being declared as World's Best Airport in the 5 to 15 million passengers
category. The Chief Minister said it is a proud achievement not only for
the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad but also for the
entire State of Andhra Pradesh. He said it has further enhanced the image
of Andhra Pradesh globally. The Chief Minister hoped that the Airport will
not only keep up the achievement but win further laurels and will expand
into a world class international green-field airport.
The Chief Minister while discussing the new infrastructure development and
investment prospects in the State with some of the top officials was
informed by the Airport authorities including the GMR Group Chairman,
G.M.Rao that the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport has been declared as
the World's Best Airport for Airport Service Quality in the 5 to 15
million passengers category by the Airports Council International (ACI),
an independent authority that promotes professional excellence in Airport
Management and Operations worldwide. They told the Chief Minister that
it's a historic achievement in Indian Aviation sector.
The Chief Minister also hailed the Hyderabad International Airport for

achievement for the airport. The GMR group thanked the Chief Minister for
the tremendous support given to the airport by the State Government. They
told the Chief Minister that this significant achievement would not have
been possible without the cooperation and contribution of all the
stakeholders more so by the State Government.
The Chief Minister recalled the dedication and unstinted efforts of former
Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy who has single-mindedly saw to it
that the Airport was completed well before the schedule. Mr Rosaish said
that UPA Chairperson Smt Sonia Gandhi laid the foundation stone for the
airport and late YSR saw to it that the Airport was completed and
inaugurated by Sonia Gandhi herself in less than three years, an enviable
record indeed! It was real testimony of grand success of Private-Public
Partnerships in major ventures like Airports, Ports etc. He said with the
completion of the Outer Ring Road, access to the international airport
would become easier and faster.
The Chief Minister said that with the completion and opening of South
Asia's longest elevated expressway--the P V Narasimha Rao Expressway, the
approach to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport became easy and faster.
Mr. Rosaiah congratulated the Rajiv Gandhi Airport authorities for its
upkeep and facilities.
Mr Rosaiah said once International Airports at Visakhapatnam and Tirupati
are completed and become operational, Andhra Pradesh will further attract
a large number of investors and tourists to the State. The State
Government is also expanding the infrastructural facilities to these
airports. The Chief Minister recalled that Andhra Pradesh has been
declared as second best investors destination in the RBI reports.
