City kids excel
in National Abacus and Mental Arithmetic
Competition

Hyderabad|India|December'2010: Winning spree continues. City kids
proved again. This time with more improved performance. They outbeat
the tough competition from across India . Four city kids excelled in
just concluded 7th National Competition on Abacus and Mental
Arithmetic. They emerged as National Champions. Andhra Pradesh stood
first in the medals tally along with Maharashtra bagging four
champions each out of total 11 categories.
Rohan Iyer, a tiny tot of 7 years studying in 2nd standard at
Chinmaya Vidyalaya became a Champion in the entry level category
AMAL. He belongs to SIP Khairatabad Center .
Ayush of 6th class from Neeraj Public School was declared Champion
in 4th level. He is currently undergoing the course at SIP Paradise
Center .
KVS Bhargav of 7th Class from Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Begumpet is
Champion of Grand Master Level B. He is the student of SIP BK Guda
Center.
A. Sameera of 9th Class from Hindu Public School from Sanathnagar
became a Champion of Grand Master C-level. She is the alumni of SIP
and belong to SIP B.K. Guda Center .
“Competition was tough. Initially I was scary. Looking at so many
people taking the test at one ago was unimaginable. But I found very
friendly atmosphere. I garnered strength and focused on my
strengths”, said proud Sameera.
“I did not know that we competed with over 4300 children in the age
group of 5-12 years from 246 centres from 20 states of India . Even
then I managed to do well. Today my chest is swollen with pride. And
I would like to work hard and win more laurels to the state”,
declared KVS Bharvag.
The kids had to solve 120+80+80 mathematical sums in just under
5+3+3 minutes depending on the different levels. The speed has
considerably improved commented Mr. Archana Shah, Center Head of
local SIP unit.
The computing skills of our city kids are on par with the best in
the world observed Ms. Rajeshwari, another SIP Center local head.
All the above champions now got an eligibility to compete in an
International Competition competed from students across 24 countries
such as UK, Malaysia, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Oman, Bahrain, UAE,
South Africa, Phillippines, China, New Zealand, USA, Canada, Kuwait,
Australia and Vietnam next year in Malaysia.
In a Best State category SIP Andhra Pradesh stood as the 1st
Runner-up. Maharashtra and Karnataka became first and second Best
States. SIP Mehdipatnam declared Best Center and awarded Runner Up
prize.
Speaking on the occasion Mr. Kelvin Tham, Founder & Global Director,
SIP Academy, Malaysia, who is also the President of Asian Mental
Research Association and the President of Abacus Arithmetic and
Development said in this competition, the contestants were tested
the concentration, confidence, intelligence, speed and accuracy of
the participants. The objective of the competition was to develop a
competitive spirit amongst these children and motivate them to excel
in the program.
