Indian Air Force rescues stranded Villager

Hyderabad|India|September'2011: The Indian Air Force has rescued a villager stranded by flood waters in Godavari river near Mogilipet Village of Mallapur Mandal in Karimnagar district during a daring rescue mission. A message was received by the Air Officer Commanding (AOC) of Air Force Station, Hakimpet from AP Disaster Management Authority requesting help in rescuing people who were stranded on an island in the Godavari River due to the sudden release of water from the Sriram Sagar Project this morning.

Responding to this call for help, Air Force authorities have assigned the task to Helicopter Training School (HTS) located at Hakimpet. Two Chetak Helicopters under the command of Wing Commander D Madhavan took off this morning for the rescue mission. The helicopters reached the rescue spot and rescued one person by winching him up from a rocky and inaccessible area on the island. In the past also Indian Air Force has prompt reacted in rescuing people during such disasters and emergencies in this area.
