award for AP TRANSCO

Hyderabad|India|February'2009: Andhra Pradesh
Transmission Corporation (AP TRANSCO) bagged another coveted award for its
efficient performance in the power sector. The India Electrical Equipment
Manufacturers Association (IEEMA) has constituted IEEMA Power Awards--2008
to honour the excellence in power sector. AP TRANSCO with its stupendous
performance in the power transmission area bagged the 2nd place under the
Award for Excellence in Power Transmission category. Further, APEPDCL has
bagged the 1st place in the country for excellence in Power Distribution
(Urban – Rural).
The award was presented on 24th February, 2009 at a function held in New
Delhi. Mr. Rakesh Nath, Chairperson & Ex-officio Secretary, Central
Electricity Authority (CEA) presented the award.
The Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy congratulated the AP Transco
for winning these coveted awards. The Chief Minister while congratulating
the Chairman and MD, AP Transco, Mr Suthirtha Bhattacharya and Joint MD,
Mr Vijayanand, said that AP Transco is doing an excellent job in meeting
the ever increasing demands for power in the State.
The Chief Minister said that it is to the credit of AP Transco it was able
to meet the record demand this season which has gone up to 211 million
units per day. The Chief Minister asked the AP Transco not to resort to
any sorts of power cuts in the domestic sector and also that seven hours
of power supply to farmers should be ensured. In the event of the demand
still going up, AP Transco can discuss with the industrial sector and
asked them to go for weekly holidays on rotation basis and cut the power
to these sector.
The Chief Minister said that Andhra Pradesh also topped in the
augmentation of power in the country. He said the Union Government
appreciated the efforts of Andhra Pradesh in aggressively adding to power
generation in view of the power crisis in the country. He hoped with the
completion of all power projects, Andhra Pradesh would not only become
self-sufficient but a power surplus State in the country.
The Chief Minister appreciated the technical and engineering staff of the
AP Transco for doing an excellent job in maintaining the quality supply
without any major problems. He said he is confident that the AP Transco
will win more laurels in the days to come both in distribution and
transmission. He asked the CMD, AP Transco and other officials to keep up
the good work.
