ITIs set to
increase in Andhra Pradesh

Hyderabad|India|August'2010: The Chief Minister Dr K Rosaiah asked
the Labour and Employment to increase the number of ITIs in the State,
particularly in the private sector with the cooperation of Industrialists
since the number of ITIs are quite inadequate compared to the number of
Engineering Colleges. He also agreed to the proposal of the Labour
Department to convert the 23 Mahila Pranganams covering all districts in
the State into Govt. ITIs. These are eligible to get funding under PPP
scheme from the Government of India @ Rs.2.50 crore for each Institute
during 2010-11 and 2011-12.
The Chief Minister said that there are a lot more Engineering Colleges in
the State compared to ITIs which are far less than actually needed. It was
also decided to organise District level job melas in consultation with the
Industries Associations such as CII, FICCI, FAPCI, FAPSIA etc. from 1st
November in ITIs in different districts. It was also decided to construct
new buildings for ITIs through philanthropists and donors and these
buildings will be named after the names of the donors or their parents
etc.
The Chief Minister reviewed the functioning of the Labour, Employment
Training and Factories department with minister and officials at
Secretariat. The meeting also decided in principle that all the employment
exchanges should be declared as Human Resource Development Centres and all
the Exchanged would be located in the Govt. ITIs as the land and other
infrastructure facilities can be fully met from the funds available in
such ITIs under the World Bank Assisted Projects/PPP etc. All the
Employment Officers would be sent for Orientation Training to CITRES to
reorient their functioning and career development.
The Chief Minister was informed that there are 709 ITIs in the State (129
Govt. ITIs and 580 ITIs) with a sanctioned strength of 1,29,115 students
and there is need for more ITIs. The Chief Minister also agreed to
positively consider recruitment of 833 Assistant Training Officers. The
Finance Department has released Rs.16 crores for the newly sanctioned 42
ITIs to procure equipments and machines. The Chief Minister asked the
officials to expedite the procurement so that the students could be
admitted for the academic year 2010-11. The meeting also decided to
consider the proposal to make the Private ITCs function viably.
The Chief Minister was informed that the first of its kind Super
Speciality Hospital under ESI and the ESI Medical College at Santhnagar is
getting ready for inauguration. There is also a ESI Dental College
sanctioned at ESI Model Hospital, Nacharam.
