center of excellence in Terahertz Science and Technolog
Hyderabad|India|December'2009: National
Institute of Technology (NIT-W), Warangal , (www.nitw.ac.in) is set to
establish a terahertz technology development centre, the first of its kind
in INDIA .
The technical partner of this center is M/S TeraHertz Technology,
Hyderabad which has collaboration with M/S TeraView, Cambridge , UK , the
global leader in this cutting edge technology.
The institute held the first incubation workshop on Trends and Challenges
in Terahertz Science and Technology on 14th Dec 2009 to create awareness
on the potential opportunities and challenges in this hitherto unexposed
area of electromagnetic spectrum.
The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. Y.V. Rao, Director, NIT, Warangal
who gave opening remarks on the future of Center for Terahertz Science and
Technology (CTST) at NIT, Warangal .
In his address Brig. P. Ganesham, VSM (Retd) briefed on defense
applications of terahertz signals. He said explosive detection is the
biggest problem being faced by the modern world and there is no potential
technology available to detect explosives like landmines and human mines.

usable technology.
Prof. Dr. Ramesh Chouhan, renowned oncologist and scientist, of TeraHertz
Technology spoke to the audience about the medical applications and
imaging aspects.

progress in the development of terahertz science and products.
NIT Warangal is entering into an MOU with M/S TeraHertz Technology, Hyd.
The centre would be jointly funded by both the organizations and will
undertake the development of applications using the technology in
collaboration with TeraView , UK . The arising IPRs and other benefits
would be shared.
With this initiative, it is envisaged that NIT Warangal would be the first
educational institution to create a center of excellence for terahertz
