Awareness of RTI is lowest in students: Wajahat Habibullah

 

Hyderabad|India|August'2009: The Department of Political Science at University of Hyderabad organized the Second Two Day National Workshop on “Implementation of Right to Information Act: Issues and Trends. starting on August 11, 2009. The workshop was inaugurated by Shri Wajahat Habibullah, Chief Information Commissioner of India.

In his inaugural address Shri Wajahat Habibullah said “Democracy required accountability and accountability requires transparency. It is this accountability and transparency that are the key factors in the successful implementation of Right to Information act.”

“Implementation, awareness and the use of the RTI Act among the students is the lowest in any community in our country”, he added.

The Guest of Honour, Smt. Aruna Roy, Founder, MKSS said that “RTI is the act given by illiterate people of central Rajasthan to our nation. Majority of rural India issuccessful in using the RTI. ”
