Hyderabad|India|June'2009: Dr. R. Balasubramanian, Director, Institute of Mathematical Sciences, Chennai delivered the lecture on Ramanujan at St. Francis College for Women situated at Begumpet on 22nd June. The talk was organized as a run up to the ICM 2010 which is being hosted at Hyderabad in 2010 by the University of Hyderabad.

In the talk, Dr. Balasubramanian spoke about the life of Ramanujan and his research interests/findings. Ramanujan worked on areas of mathematics which included number theory.

Prof. Tandon, Professor of Mathematics introduced the Chief Guest and gave details on the ICM 2010. ICM is the International Congress of Mathematicians which is held once in four years and in 2010 it is being held at Hyderabad. Top level Mathematicians from all over the world will be attending this congress where the Fields Medal which is the equivalent for Nobel Prize will be awarded.

Prof. V Kannan, Pro Vice Chancellor of University of Hyderabad presided over the talk. In his presidential address, Prof. Kannan said that from Ramajunan’s life we must realize that the Intuition is more important than the ability to calculate. He called upon the students to develop a greater sense of appreciation for mathematics.
