Robotic Assisted Surgery Workshop held in City

Krishna Institute of
Medical Sciences(KIMS) organised Robotic Assisted
Surgery Workshop at its premises. The
workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Mukul Sangma,
Chief Minister of Meghalaya. The workshop was
organised by Dr.James Peaboy, Senior Consultant in
Robotic Surgery from USA. About 200 doctors from
twin cities across the state of Andhra Pradesh
have participated in the day long workshop.
Dr. James Peabody will conduct various urological
procedures till July 2nd. A patient who underwent
robotic assisted surgery yesterday came walking to
the workshop to showcase how robotic assisted
surgery enbale faster recovery and sharter
hospitalisation.
Speaking on the occasion immediately aftrer the
inauguration Dr. Mukul Sangma, Chief Minister of
Meghalaya said Indian doctors are on par with the
best in the country. There is a abundant of talent
in this country. Medicaly fraternity in the
country must adapt latest technology so as to
mitigate the pain and to offer relief to the
patient.
I am happy KIMS is too fast to adapt technology he
observed . Now they must go a step forward to take
the Robotic Assisted Technology reach more people.
Advance technology must reduce medical costs and
offer affordable health care to the masses, he
said.
Speaking on the occasion Dr. Bahskar Rao, MD & CEO
of KIMS announced that initially surgeries would
be conducted in the area of urology to treat
problems relating to prostate, kidney and urinary
bladder.Subsequently robot-assisted surgeries
would be extended to other specialities, including
cardiac, gastro-intestinal and ENT.
Adding further he stated that currently we are
doing 3 or 4 smaller incisions, but in next couple
of months we will be able to perform surgeries
with one small incision.
During the day long workshop issues such as
Robotic Hysterectomy, Robotic Partial Nephrectomy/Radical
Prostectomy and History and evolution and training
of Robotic Surgery were discussed.
