Hyderabad|India|March'2010: The new building of the Sarojini Naidu
School of Arts & Communication at University of Hyderabad was inaugurated by Union Minister for HRD, Shri
Kapil Sibal in the presence of Hon’ble
Minister of State, MHRD, Govt. of India; Smt. D Purandeswari
accompanied by the Vice
Chancellor of UoH, Prof. Seyed E Hasnain.
The new building is a laterite structure designed
by the
architectural firm, Shilpa Sindoor from
Bangalore, under the guidance of its head
and veteran architect, Sri Shankar Kanade. The
complex houses a state-of-the-art in-house
production studio, a campus radio station,
computer labs, spacious studios for painting,
graphics and sculpture, and practice halls for
dance and theatre. The new building is over 4000
sq. mtrs and is built at a cost of rupees four
crores.
The Sarojini Naidu School of Arts & Communication at University of
Hyderabad was established in 1988. Starting its operations from the
ancestral home of the nationalist poet Sarojini Naidu located in the heart
of the city, the School has now moved into its own building on the main
campus in Gachibowli, Hyderabad.
This is the perhaps the only University-based unit of this kind in the
country that brings communication and media, dance, theatre, and fine arts
under a single canopy. A faculty team consisting of reputed scholars,
established artists and performers offer post-graduate and
doctoral programs in the
four departments. The School has a vibrant intellectual and cultural
environment, with a host of eminent
theatre practitioners,
contemporary painters and sculptors, and film and media professionals
visiting the School regularly to conduct workshops and interact with
students. The alumni of the School are well-placed in the various media
industries, art galleries and studios, design agencies, dance academies,
theatre companies, and
academic institutions.
