Hyderabad|India|April'2009:
India has the world's largest number of children out of school. Every
child in India has the right to free, quality education, but still
approximately one out of every two children(close to 20 crore) do not go
to school. In this light of background to help support Children education,
P&G and CRY’s educational initiative Shiksha 2009 announced in Andhra
Pradesh and across India. It’s an initiative to lead a child to the path
of education. Project Shiksha is a part of P&G's global philantrhopy
program Live, Learn and Thrive that focuses on the development of children
in need across globe, with Education of Children via Shiksha being the
priority in India.
All consumers need to do to participate is simply buy any P&G's products.
P&G and CRY urged consumers to buy large packs of Tide, Ariel, Pantene,
H&S, Rejoice, Vicks VapoRub, Whisper, Gillette Mach 3 Turbo or Papers
during April, May and June and lead a child to the path of education.
Irrespective of sales, P&G has committed a minimum of Rs 1 crore to
Shiksha, which will be allocated to projects focused on enabling the
child's right to education. With a motto of "padhega India, Badhega
India--Mille Sabko Shiksho ka Haq"--Shiksha believes that the secrets to a
brighter India lies in the quality education of our children.
Shiksha is the easiest way for anybody and everybody to help children
study simply by washing your clothes or shampooing your hair. It is that
simple. It is the most easiest way to make common people contribute and
participate for the cause through Shiksha without hassle of doing any
other extra things and feel good for contributing.
Puja Marwaha, Director(West), Child Rights and You(CRY) said, "India will
only achieve her true potential, when we make child rights our topmost
national priority. To do this we have to go beyond schemes and programs to
address the real obstacles to growth---caste, class, gener and governance.
I urge every Indian citizen to stand up for child rights.
Shweta Shukla, Head of External Relations, P&H said "P&G globally is
committed to the cause of development of children in need via its
corporate cause: P&G Live, Learn, Thrive and Shiksha is our response to
the situation in India.
Kajol, well known Hindi film actress who supports Shiksa said Education is
one the most critical factors deciding the choices of life offers to a
child. However, millions of children in this country today are deprived of
this critical opportunity.
This is the 5th year of Shiksha. Over the years it touched over 87000
children in 432 communities across India on the path to the right to
education with a donation of over Rs 8 crore. The Shiksha Projects include
one that work with the State Education Departments to re-look at existing
education policies, creat awareness to build more shcools with better
infrastructure and basic amenities like water, electricity, health; enroll
more children into formal schools and promotion of retention in schools;
and build all-round development of children.
