pursuing PhD in Sociology at the University of Hyderabad has published his
M.Phil research work as a book titled, 'Gramsci, Intellectuals and
Autonomy: A Study of Telangana Movement’. The book published by
German-based Lambert Academic Publishing Company is a Sociological work
and has analysed the role of Intellectuals in Telangana Movement through
Gramscian Perspective. The book focuses on how/why/when different strata
of Intellectuals have constructed the Identity of Telangana in demanding
for a separate state.
The book focuses on the role of intellectuals in a political movement
demanding a separate state of Telangana within the federal setup of India.
Presently, the Telangana region is a part of the state of Andhra Pradesh.
In the political movement that is in progress at the time of writing this
book, the intellectuals, predominantly Telugu-speaking, and hailing from
the Telangana region have been playing a very important role. The
intellectual strata comprise academicians, journalists, writers, lawyers,
cultural artistes etc., as well as a section of the student leadership in
their advanced stages of education. The author has collected and
documented the interviews from various intellectual strata who have
constructed the Telangana issue from different vantage positions. The book
identifies and gives a Sociological analysis through Gramscian perspective
on three broad intellectual groups who are seeking for a separate state
namely Geographical Telangana, Social Telangana and Democratic Telangana.
The book also provides a scope to study the Telangana Movement through
these three intellectual groups varied interests.
Mr. Pandrapragada Raghavendra is currently a research scholar in the
Department of Sociology at University of Hyderabad. This book is based on
his M.Phil dissertation. He has carried out his M.Phil research work under
the guidance and supervision of Dr. V. Janardhan who is a faculty in the
