US Ambassador called on CM
Hyderabad|India|October'2009: The United States Ambassador Mr.
Timothy J.Roemer called on the Chief Minister K.Rosaiah at
Secretariat. The two leaders exchanged views and discussed in detail
areas of mutual interest. The U.S. Ambassador who was enamoured by
the progress made by Andhra Pradesh in various fields, particularly
in IT, Biotechnology, Education, Pharmachetucals and Micro Finance
said there are many areas where Andhra Pradesh can work with US
departments. The Ambassador hailed the progress achieved by the
State in different fields.
The Chief Minister who welcomed the Ambassador to Andhra Pradesh
explained to him about the priorities of his government. He listed
out the State progress in education, women empowerment, irrigation (Jalayagnam)
agriculture, IT and BT etc. The Ambassador invited the Chief
Minister to visit the United States. While speaking about flood
relief and rescue operations, the Chief Minister told Mr Roemer that
he, ministers and most of the senior officials spent 48 hours
without sleep.
U.S.Consul General in Hyderabad, Mr.Cornelis M.Keur, Adviser to
Govt., Mr.Peter Hassan and Chief Secretary, Mr.Ramakantha Reddy and
other officials were present. Later the US Ambassador spoke to the
media persons briefly.
“It is a privilege for me to visit India as a personal
representative of President of USA Mr.Barak Obama and it is my first
visit to Hyderabad. This is a dynamic and very fascinating community
here having very close ties with United States. I am honoured to be
here this morning. The Chief Minister has got a grate deal of
background and acumen in financial matters with whom, I had very
productive discussions. We talked about issues like Education,
partnership for exchanging ideas on education reforms on building
community colleges to teach young people the kind of education, jobs
in the local community”.
“The Chief Minister explained about infrastructure, business
opportunities and investment. I told him that the US is working on a
bilateral treaty which is in negotiating phase between US and India
which will result in the months ahead as agreed upon for direct
investment opportunities in infrastructure projects between India
and US. This may be in the areas like construction of roads,
bridges, power projects. We look forward to more discussions in
December between US and India on this bilateral investment treaty.
We also talked about issues of floods and flooding. After seeing the
calamity here we thought of to send money directly down to the State
and also to the Central Government. We tried to target the
localities to reach the people directly”.
The Chief Minister and I talked about not only these efforts but how
to work in future on flood prevention and the types of projects that
might take place on that front. I look forward to meeting him again
in my future visits to Hyderabad. I look forward to hosting him at
Delhi and to getting to know the Chief Minister better. We express
our condolences and prayers on the tragic death of Dr. Reddy. Before
we new about the tragic death we afford resources to the Home
Minister. I want to express my personal heartfelt sympathies to the
people of Andhra Pradesh.
I aleady met the Governor N D Tiwari. President Barak Obama is
extremely excited and passionate of Indo-US relationships. He thinks
the relationship between India and US is not only the most important
in the world but one of the best relationships. Mr. Obama is very
much looking forward to hosting Prime Minister in November for the
United States. Mr Singh will be the Obama administration's first
distinguished State Guest”.
