Prof. Y V Reddy, former RBI Governor and Emeritus Professor in the
Department of Economics at the University of Hyderabad gave away the
Achievers’ Awards at a glittering function organized on the University
Campus.
University of Hyderabad in the year 2006 instituted fellowships and
scholarships to all students on the campus. These fellowships encourage
the meritorious students and also make the students’ self-supported
irrespective of their social and economic status for their studies. The
University is supporting 348 Ph.D scholars, 188 M.Phil scholars, 1279 PG
students and 400 students of Integrated Master’s Programme. The rate of
fellowship differs from course to course. The Ph.D students are given
fellowship at Rs. 5000/- per month, M. Phil students at Rs. 3000/- per
month, PG students at Rs. 1000/- per month and integrated Master’s
Programme Students at Rs. 500/-. The Ph.D and M. Phil students are also
supported with annual contingency amount of Rs. 10000/- p.a. and Rs.
8000/- p.a. for Science and Social Sciences and Humanities discipline
respectively.
This Year University of Hyderabad awarded the Achievers’ Awards to 149
students amounting to Rs. 15 Lacs per annum. Out of the 149 toppers
selected for the Achievers’ Awards; 6 students belong to SC, 2 students
belong to ST, 7 students belong to BC, 4 are Physically Challenged
students and 1 Foreign student. The University of Hyderabad is incurring
on an average expenditure of Rs: 1.50 crores per month for all fellowships
given to its students.
